I don't know how to turn off decay, but I just put in "decay.decaytickrate 30" which should cut decay by ten. So ten days of not being in your house before it starts to decay. That good?

News to me:
If you hold shift and drag a research kit onto another, you get to learn how to make research kits. 20 low quality metal and 20 leather, and the craftable research kits can have more than one use.

Wut wut? That would have been nice to know in the past.

5 people on our server right now!

Went scouting to see if I could find where they were hanging out. Couldn't figure it out. Everywhere I went, there were resources all over the place and I didn't see anyone running around. Ended up making my way to our metal fortress. Although, I got there at dark so couldn't really take it all in. What is the foot print of it?

Has someone tried this? I could have sworn I tried this, and it failed.
Kind of hope you can't research research kits. I want them to be rare.

4x5. Still only one floor. I've only been logging in to refresh it. Perhaps if the day is slow I can do some harvesting and building today.

Yes, I tried it last night, and it worked (researching a research kit).
I dropped a bunch of metal stuff at the metal house the other day, but I'm not sure how you wanted to build it.

I asked for feedback several times, but nobody really got back to me.
I'm going to finish the second floor today. After that...
I LOVE the concept that all of our group who plays on this server gets their own floor. I put up the exterior walls, and you fill in the rest.
I guess let me finish off the first two floors, and I'll go from there. I need to make them a little more secure internally too.
Oh, and whoever is dropping off the C4 and grenades, they are secured (as much as anything can be in Rust).
In different news, my wooden house is finally gone.

I dropped off a couple pieces of C4, and some grenades, I think?

Ok, second floor is built.
I'm still finalizing the interiors of both the first and second floor. (The outside hall of the second floor is going to be nothing but bullshit that someone will have to clear to get to us.) The second floor crafting area is complete though, so if you're a craft player, please come bye. I envision that room being full of resources. (We pull them up from the drop off on the ground floor, craft on the second where we keep our resource inventory, and then drop off finished products back on the first.)
I'm unsure of what to do about the outside. There are areas around the foundation where a foundation block can be put down. Should I fill all of these with my own foundations and throw pillars or what no down so nobody else can build on them?
Should I build wooden spike walls around the foundation? Should I try to find an area to put down a large wooden gate to enter our "compound"?
Again, all would just be additional security.

Fill the outer rooms with spike walls? Or maybe furnaces (you can't walk through those, right?) that they have to hack down?

Yes. Put down a surrounding ring of foundations and put a post on all available post slots (especially the middle ones). Then no one can build stairs on the first level around. Although they could build on the second after putting a foundation outside that ring for the first floor stairs, so make the posts double-tall. But it's still not perfect for the same reasons, of course, just one floor removed for each level of posts.
I haven't tried it, but maybe the best choice would be to leave a gap and put down an outer ring of foundations that are just as close as you can put them but not attached. That would put them far enough away to keep people from finding a way to stair them anyway yet close enough to stop someone from putting down a foundation in the gap. In theory, at least. As I say, I haven't tried it.

I honestly thought you were fucking with us, but this works. I can now craft research kits.
Although, my requirements just talk about paper...
Also, I believe I have noticed that some metal walls are better than others, and I don't know how to create the difference.
Take a look at the outside of our metal house. You'll see two different types of walls:
-The loose sheet metal wall that you'd see in Haiti.
-A tight sheet metal wall covered with large thick metal bars and a large square of metal in the middle.
The later seems like it wouldn't allow light in or out. It also look like it'd take 2-3 charges to get through.
Anyone know if there's a difference and how to ensure you get the good one if there is?

I'll look into the Research Kits tongiht, maybe tweak the recipe to require paper if it's not already required. It should be, IMO, as that would limit the crafting of it a bit and also finally put all that paper to good use.
Any objections?

From what I understand there used to be a difference in wall sides, it was a mystery known to very few people - even on the facepunch forums.
But the patch this week, made it so c4 charges and walls are a bit more balanced. C4 always does 600 damage to a wall, no matter where you place the c4 or what side it's on. Wood walls, doorways, and window frames have 1k hp. I'm not sure how many hp a metal wall has, but you can test it by using a grenade on one and then repairing it. (with metal fragments I guess?) Metal doors have 1k hp too, I believe.

TPR, I just logged in to look (and was oddly dead...but that's another story), and when I click on it to craft it does indeed require 20 LQ metal and 20 leather. I was reading in the description where it says it requires paper (an item that is also craftable...).
If we can change it, I think I'd add 10 paper to that formula or even 20. Make the kits craftable, but those ingredients would be it seem more logical.
Interestingly, if you just drag a RK onto another, it won't do anything. You must hold shift. Weird.
Also, I did two runs to Big Civ today, and both times I got C4. Not sure if I'm insanely lucky or what? I got more C4 than guns, and that includes a run to Civ Coast as well.
Ok, let's talk about my death. I just logged out 45 minutes ago, naked, but in the metal house. The only folks on were Cake, who also logged in the house, TheCatt, and Satchel Charge Jim. So here's the possibilities:
-TheCatt was nowhere around, but it's possible he killed me. I doubt it though because none of the furniture was harmed.
-SC Jim killed me. He'd have to be a hacker to do so, and why did he kill Cake and Taz sleeping in the next room.
-Cake killed me and then logged to be funny. This is the most likely explanation.
-A bug killed me or the cold? Can you die of exposure while sleeping naked on top of your sleeping bag in your metal house? Are clothes that important? Why didn't I die previously if this is true?

You didn't hack apart their storage crates and burn the house to the ground?
