Metro 2033 and Amnesia: The Dark Descent are both $5. Highly recommend both.
Also, make sure you check the "objectives" for the day. One is to simply check your inventory and you get some gifts. I was given Day of Defeat Source, Frozen Synapse, and a 50% Duke Nukem coupon.
I doubt anyone wants Day of Defeat, but if you do, let me know. Ditto for the coupon.
Frozen Synapse I already owned, and would be willing to trade if anyone gets anything good they don't want. Or I'll gift it to someone who really wants it.

I got a 33% off Valve coupon. It's valid AFTER 1/12/12, but, it's not valid on anything released after 1/12/12. So, it's only good for old stuff and I can't pile it on to the sale stuff.

I'm not sure you guys are doing things right. What free games did you get?
Go to "The Great Gift Pile", and the day 1 objectives includes "Check your inventory". If you click the link, it takes you to your "inventory", NOT your library of games.
In there is where I received two free games, and the 50% coupon.
Or did I just get more? (Maybe it has to do with number of games purchased through the year?)
Cake, I'll send you Day of Defeat when I get home, unless you discover that you were also gifted it.

It says I completed the objective, but there's nothing of any sort anywhere in my inventory. I can't even find any sort of coal or whatever. What?

Nope. All I got was a coupon. Bastards. My completed objectives is '1'. Clicked on "View your Steam Inventory". I have 3 pages of TF2 items. Maybe they gave me some extra items in there. I'd never know though.

Steam Inventory.... I got there by click on the great gift pile, then the Steam Inventory link in the first item.... which is what you do to finish the task

I go to Steam Inventory, I see TF2 (183), Portal 2 (3), Spiral Knights (97), and Pending Gifts (0). Nothing about coal or coupons or anything at all that would appear to indicate there's anything special going on right now.
Are you seeing another separate tab for the givaway and coupons? Or a special section on the page? Or what?
I guess this means I got nothing at all for my gift. But I'm curious as to what I would be looking for if I had gotten something.

Ok so don't try to access the steam store right when the new deals go up at 1.
The page won't even load for me.
If anyone else can get it to load look and see how many people are on steam at that moment. I would be interested to know how many are sitting around at 12:59 waiting for the new deals to load.

Nukem, Witcher, and HL titles are the stars today. Although, I think I'm going to grab three of the indy titles.

I have purchased about 7 games so far, and spent less than $50. That includes Rage.
Also, one of the task in the big gift giveaway is to do a trade in Steam. If anyone knows how to do that, please send me a trade request or whatever, and we'll each get a free gift or something like that.
BTW, highly recommend Borderlands and Plants vs Zombies which are both under $5 today.
I'm pissed that Skyrim is only 33% off.I was hoping for 50%.
