Ok...
So if the windshield of the ship has to be able to withstand meteors going tens of thousands of miles per hour, why can the wooden stake go through and impale Wash?
If the Reavers are just straigt-up batshit insane, how is it they can operate/maintain ships?
Why wasn't there an old, dead body on the floor where they found the recording the chick made when she got et? That would have been cool.
And most importantly......Mr. Universe? Wha?

More likely there's some sort of minor offensive system that handles micrometeors by pulverising them before they hit the windows. Bigger meteors get steered around.
Maybe the reavers don't maintain thier ships very well. Could be they just steal new ones all the time. Or maybe it's possible to be an angry psychotic murdering mechanic from hell and still get the job done. *shrug*
'Cause they et her? Right down to her shoes?
You are what you see, and Mr. Universe sees everything. Can't stop the signal!

Mr. U was damned near Deus Ex Machina. Good thing he got invented when it turned out Mal would need to make a broadcast to the entire human race.

And we all know that's the first time Whedon has pulled something like that. :p

I'm feeling truthsome... I never watched Buffy or Angel or anything else he did.
Just the Firefly series.... twice, now.
I'll take it as a kindness if you don't give me a hard time about it.

No problem, but I'd just like to take this moment to point out that the latter seasons of Buffy have the same high-quality characters and excellent writing as Firefly does. It's worth a watch.
The first couple of seasons are okay, too, but he was working his way up to excellence there.
I haven't watched Angel yet, so I can't comment on that.
And that's all I'll say about that.

Buffy & Angel suck elderly male yak balls, regardless of season.

That was great!
The movie was pretty good. I love the characters and story. If they do make another (and I hope they do) it'll have to be a prequel. They could almost do a 'Chronicles of Book', cause you know he was a BMF.
My complaints... When they mentioned Miranda was on the edge I knew immediately it's where there reavers were from. I was under the impression that the Firefly universe was more than one solar system. Are we supposed to think that after the secret of Miranda was broadcast, River gets her marbles squared away?

Great series and movie.
I don't think they would have to do a prequel. The Firefly Universe is probably headed towards another civil war.
The deaths of Wash (completely unexpected) and Book would actually help in future movie scripting. Having nine crew members works well for a television series. You can cycle through stories focusing on different characters in a series which gives actors a break, writers new material ideas, and the audience something new to focus attention on.
In a movie, that many cast members just gets cluttered up if you aren't careful. And if you are careful, a lot of them become almost "bit parts".

Alrighty, on New Year's Eve, I got to see this. Granted, I was drunk & not paying much attention, but I wasn't impressed.

I was drunk and not paying much attention once when in a 1000 year old wine tasting room in southern Spain, and I wasn't much impressed, either.

Till Joss publicly apologizes for Buffy, Angel, & that god-awful last Alien flick, he remains on my shitlist.

But Buffy rocked.
No arguement from me on that Alien flick. Ick.

So, it's on iControl on Time Warner cable, now, so here's an observation after about my 30th viewing:
Early on, Zoe makes Mal feel guilty for throwing that guy ot of the car when the reavers attacked. "During the war we would naver have left a man behind" Mal-"Maybe that's why we lost."
Later, River goes sickhouse in the bar and Mal picks her up and takes her back to the ship. Jayne asks Mal why he did it, when Mal had pretty much just thrown her off the ship... Mal doesn't answer, but glances at Zoe. Very subtle, but I think he was trying to make up to her for disappointing her earlier, by not leaving a man behind, this time.

The reavers don't maintain their ships. They drive them till they die. Thus having what's-her-face rig the engine to leak shit out the back. They probably just take over anything that will move after attacking others.

As most of you know, I watched the whole Firefly series and film recently for the first time.
I agree with Gordon about the film. It just seemed compacted and wasn't a great send off for a fantastic TV show.

I read he was going to introduce the Mr. Universe character on the series but it got canceled before he could work him in.

That would have been better.
