Yuck. Might need to reinstall then. And this time, if they ask you if they can look at your papers, you say "NO!"

I figured when it said "you hafta install windows genuine advantage" they meant it.

I am a sucker.

I haven't had any problems, but it was also the last update I saw so I may be screwed later as new viruses come out.

But I was allowed to install SP2 and all the updates up until that one.

I just got a batch of updates last week... but I don't run the manual windows update process, just the automated download, where I choose what gets installed.

I just get my monthly updates here and don't bother with their website at all. Very handy and has a ton of customized windows addons included.

If you don't have WGA installed, Microsoft will be shutting down your PC this fall.

Cool. That should give Linux a hell of a boost.

Windows Genuine Advantage removal tool.

For what it's worth.

So... do you suppose hackers are going to write a spoof WGA in order to keep Microsoft from shutting people down?

I cannot believe MS would do this.

Just recently they said they'd stopped the WGA notification process and published ways to remove it.

I give it a .1 in Gartner terms.

I got another WGA notice last night, even though I had previously checked "never tell me of this particular update again".

I wonder if Gates decided to announce his retirement because he was losing control of the company and stuff like this was getting put into play.

This will make for an interesting lawsuit.

Who determines how something gets used, the company who made the product or the consumer who bought it?

This will affect every corner of the industry.

If MS loses, Steam will be right behind it.

Microsoft: How to remove WGA.

What the hell.

Correction: Disable WGA NOTIFICATIONS. Ok, that makes a little more sense.

Oh yeah.

I turned on Automatic Updates the other day, as peeps said they were still getting their updates that way.

Apparently it "upgraded" my WGA so now I get the "you aren't genuine, you fucking fake" messages. I wasn't getting them before.

So, Linux.... how good is the WinXP emulation through WINE?

I believe the phrase I heard describing it was "pure, 100%, Grade A-1, industrial goat ass."

I should probably system restore to yesterday, and shut off automatic updates.
