GORDON wrote:So, if we get hit with a multi-day power outage, how do you keep the pipes inside your house from freezing and bursting? Do I need to not worry about it, or turn off the house water and drain it?
When you decide to abandon the house I will talk you thru how to to drain the water from your lines. Keep in mind it is hard to drain 100% without the use of a compressor. But having air in them does give them a chance to expand without breaking. Just turning off the water improves your chances of flooding when the power comes back on and you aren't home when the leaks start. Turning off/draining odds get better.
Before you ask my compressor is down.
As for who to eat first. Why do you think you are invited over?
So I will have another male around to help process the women..

Got the driveway cleared so round 2 can have a clean slate.

Sigh.

Mostly screwed? What are you whining about?

Yeah, mostly screwed is still slightly unscrewed.

It all depends on which side of the freezing rain I end up on. Whoever gets freezing rain will be more screwed, as far as I can tell. Up north they will get more snow, but enough freezing rain will bring down power lines. Right this second Unk and I have a big purple blob of freezing rain heading for us.

Oh, and it just started snowing again.

My wife's 86 year old relative has similar concerns about the weather.

I'm actually looking forward to the snow and hope we get the max. Will make for awesome skiing for the next few weeks.

I'll let you know how 'bad' it is tonight. I actually have an over night job. So, I'll be leaving home a few hours after it starts, and heading home many hours into it. Am I worried? Nope. I have a light work schedule and plan to enjoy what we are finally lucky enough to get!

My only concern is losing power. I live in the middle of nowhere and it could be days until it gets back.

I get the impression you are concerned about freezing to death and starving to death too. I'm surprised you haven't looked into getting your roof shoveled so you aren't crushed to death!

I promise that this 'blizzard' is less dangerous than the many hurricanes you've surfed the Internet through. Everything will be ok.

Order a couple of these toys, and head out with your son. He'll love it, and you'll see that snow is your friend.

Power out for more than a few hours means cold/freezing house. Freezing house means burst pipes and dead aquarium fish. Yeah, it's a bit of a concern.

Don't you have insulation? It takes way more than a few hours for my house to be freezing and bursting pipes. To me, the worst part about power outages is boredom. I can go without heat or A/C. It's the lack of lights and Internet that get me.

I was planning on taking a walk during the storm once the big stuff hits around 10 p.m.

Sounds like sleet hitting the house, here.

Just went out for a second. Not a ton of snow falling yet, but it's windy. Oddly warm.

The whipping wind has already made spotting the sidewalk tough. However, it's also kept my car snow free so far.

Still sleeting. Went out and it was like being pelted with.... sleet.

At least it isn't falling as liquid and freezing yet.... and it isn't building up on power lines.

Swept 4 inches of snow from the last 3 hours off the deck. Looked out a 9 a m this morning to see an old boss of mine plowing my driveway. He won't be back but I talked to the regular guy today. This is going to be great. NOT.

And I didn't think about this, but all my plants will die, too.

I've had that tropical tree for almost 30 years.

Sleeting here now. Lots of wind. Whiteout on its way.
