Over on reddit someone linked today's russian propaganda about a dirty bomb that was mentioned as the "next step" on that FSB report.

Thinking about the average person in russia being insulated from outside information, only knowing what their government chose to tell them. Lots of them think they're fighting some rogue, terrorist nation, and their cause is just. I've heard that over 50% of them still think this, and the "dirty bomb" propaganda will entrench them.

So what would that look like in the USA? Imagine every country except, say, Canada, suddenly condemned us on the world stage. Economic sanctions, foreign goods and services severing contact. But our government says all is well. They block access to BBC news and everything else from overseas.

How long until the average American figures out that something stinks? Ever?

Conspiracy theory time, not intended to derail the above question: Putin probably gained control by inventing foreign atrocities on his own people (https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/t ... utins-rise). With that he was able to change the rules and become a strongman. What would that look like in the USA? 9/11? We certainly did love a lot of privacy and freedom, in the aftermath, and intelligence agencies gained a lot.

That said, when the sanctions hit, and the money runs out, it will be interesting to see who suddenly doesn’t have any funding.
