On a bye in my league with Stranger. Looks like he won. I think he'll be playing the other team that got a bye next week. Wish I was, that guy's team is decimated.

In my work league I'm currently beating the #1 ranked team by 13 points. He's got Jefferies tonight, and I've got Bailey. If I suck, I think I beat him on the tie breaker putting me into the playoffs and eliminating him. Going to look at the math on that at lunch.

AP has obviously not played enough in Philly. Seriously, there can't be any fans worse than Philadelphia fans. No, not even Detroit. The Phillies, '76ers, Eagles, and Flyers all have legendary asshole fans notorious even among other asshole fans for their assholiness.

Gronk tears multiple things that take forever to heal. While the hit was indeed legal, the league may have to decide if the tradeoff for things like this is worth it. Every low shot has a chance to take away 1.5 seasons from someone's career. Every high shot has a chance to cause significant neurological damage. I wouldn't be shocked if the NFL started imposing some kind of size/weight limit on a per position basis. Other than making it touch/flag football, there's no other way to cut down on the injuries. Eventually, all the dudes with legs that took too many hits will band together like all the dudes whose heads took too many hits.

Football players have one job above all others: compete. It's at the heart of all professional athletic leagues.

No. It's a job. You want to make as much cash as possible for as long as possible. If everyone competed to the utmost, you'd notice way more injuries. These are not X-Box sprites. I think his chances of improving in the last few games are smaller than his chances of getting hurt worse, physically or psychologically.

Every time I see a WR or RB run out of bounds instead of fighting/diving for 2-3 more yards, it drives me crazy.

I disagree with you.

To players like Albert Haynesworth, it is absolutely a job, and for assholes like him, not even that.

However, to the majority of the players, it's about competing. Players don't dive the extra yard for $50 more. They don't get into fights with teammates or coaches for cash. They don't cry during press conferences for gift cards. Russell Wilson isn't excited about baseball because he needs the extra cash to make ends meet.

The majority of players are there to win. Yes, they want that cash, and that's why they aren't exclusively loyal to one club or another, but they want to win.

They dive so they can get a better contract next time. Some of them are playing for the legacy or the championship they never got, like Tony Gonzalez. Not to say he isn't busting his ass. Not coincidentally, players who are on the winning side tend to command better salaries.

Hell, the entire PED thing in every fucking sport is about the money. Why? So you can get bigger and faster dudes. Why? To win more. Why? Because winning teams make more money, players on winning teams make more money. There are some pathological cases where results don't matter much, e.g. Green Bay could go winless for 100 years and still sell out every home game, the Minnesota T-Wolves could win ten straight NBA championships and still have shit attendance, but for the most part, not as many fans go to see losers. Ask the Montreal Expos.
