You still need to pick the winner of every game. It's 50/50 between "winner" and "loser" every time. Doesn't matter who advances if you fill out the entire bracket up front.

Northwestern doesn't give a fuck about athletics. I could easily see them declaring all scholarships for athletes have been revoked, and anyone who wants to play sports can do so, but will receive zero benefits from the school. No pay, no employment.

I don't agree with his assessment in the final paragraph:
First, besides a ridiculously slanted system towards the SEC in college football, what exactly does college sports need to be saved from?
Second, aren't players coming out of high school already free agents?
Third, baseball was slightly ruined by free agency because only big market teams can compete, or those willing to spend tons of money. Doesn't your system basically do the same? Goodbye small schools!
Fourth, to keep things fair, won't we need rules? Who will govern those rules? The NCAA or a new entity that's basically the NCAA? And are we to believe cheating will end under a new system?
Again, let's say the NBA gets their "3 years out of high school" rule passed, which is item #1 on Adam Silver's agenda. What's to stop schools from announcing that they'll end scholarships for athletes? They'll still have the athletic programs, but will no longer offer scholarships. Now you've got football and basketball players with their thumbs up their asses for three years?
