At the beginning, "smart people" (liberals that I was exposed to) were mocking people for wearing masks. But over time masks became the trendy thing for "smart people," and I myself saw a study that masks were at least 80% effective at a stopping the spread from someone who had it. That was good enough for me, even though 80% still isn't good enough to stop the pandemic. Oh well.

I've seen some dumb-ass posts on FB though.... I have blocked a couple more long-time friends because of their idiotic "anti-mask" memes. I think my fave one to mock is the one where someone exhales cigarette smoke, and it comes out at all the corners and it's like "ha ha you think masks stop anything?" That is so fucking stupid. So blocking people,

Which is why suggesting I am an anti-masker is going to grind my gears.

I dont think anyone here said that.

Yeah. And my anti-masker friends are quick to point that out. Some people, I dunno, can't accept change or something.

Nobody said that. I will say that your reading comprehension is suspect... :D

The link I posted was to an article discussing how scientists had tested the various masks people are wearing to see what worked and what didn't. One of the ones that they said was bad is one you are wearing in a picture on FB.

They specifically said buffs of a given material (fleece). I do not know what Gordon's buff is made of.

Probably. It was apparently explained once but I still don't know why name had to be dropped in.

Ah, now I see. I didn't click any of the links, assuming they were from the MSM, and therefore about 28% accurate.

I read the Duke study the other day, before it became a MSM article, if that helps.

If I'm reading that right, the neck-wrap masks I just bought somehow INCREASE the risk of COVID transmission.

Which is all fine. I've been testing them for a few days, and they don't stay on my nose well when I turn my head. I've been thinking of a modification that will help them stay in place. Now I'll just also incorporate a better layer of cloth over my mouth/nose.

I don't like how regular masks look. I was going for something more stylish.

They appear to break the droplets into more, smaller droplets that makes them even easier to spread.

Well... I know for a fact I'm not a carrier/spreader. So not feeling guilty yet.

Also my mom had it and recovered last month. Tested negative at the time, but was just found with the antibodies. She says we come from peasant stock, and have hearty immune systems.

hardy?

Sports, but posting here for Gordon: Rare heart condition being found in college athletes possibly related to coronavirus.
Myocarditis, inflammation of the heart muscle, has been found in at least five Big Ten Conference athletes and among several other athletes in other conferences, according to two sources with knowledge of athletes' medical care.

The condition is usually caused by a viral infection, including those that cause the common cold, H1N1 influenza or mononucleosis. Left undiagnosed and untreated, it can cause heart damage and sudden cardiac arrest, which can be fatal. It is a rare condition, but the COVID-19 virus has been linked with myocarditis with a higher frequency than other viruses, based on limited studies and anecdotal evidence since the start of the pandemic.
Which seems more tenuous of a connection than I see in studies lately, like this one: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7199677/
Human coronavirus-associated myocarditis is known, and a number of coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19)–related myocarditis cases have been reported. The pathophysiology of COVID-19–related myocarditis is thought to be a combination of direct viral injury and cardiac damage due to the host’s immune response. COVID-19 myocarditis diagnosis should be guided by insights from previous coronavirus and other myocarditis experience. The clinical findings include changes in electrocardiogram and cardiac biomarkers, and impaired cardiac function. When cardiac magnetic resonance imaging is not feasible, cardiac computed tomographic angiography with delayed myocardial imaging may serve to exclude significant coronary artery disease and identify myocardial inflammatory patterns. Because many COVID-19 patients have cardiovascular comorbidities, myocardial infarction should be considered. If the diagnosis remains uncertain, an endomyocardial biopsy may help identify active cardiac infection through viral genome amplification and possibly refine the treatment risks of systemic immunosuppression. Arrhythmias are not uncommon in COVID-19 patients, but the pathophysiology is still speculative. Nevertheless, clinicians should be vigilant to provide prompt monitoring and treatment. The long-term impact of COVID-19 myocarditis, including the majority of mild cases, remains unknown.

Ok, so viruses can cause a treatable heart inflammation, and COVID is a virus? "Higher frequency?" Instead of .1%, it's .2%?

AGain.... about 28% accurate news reporting.

Not really. I figure a good chunk of what a reporter writes is flat-out wrong, and a lot of pertinent facts are omitted because he or she doesn't understand what is being reported. Then a whole other thing is bias, to advance a narrative, for any number of reasons.

At least that is what I have observed.

This article is about 28% useful, with barely enough information to make one aware of a hint of a possibility of a fact.

Well, they certainly wouldn't be worried about rules and ethics in their rush to get it developed. Thus, it's possible.

New Zealand cases SKYROCKET... from 0 to 4.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern addressed New Zealanders at an impromptu late-night press conference on Tuesday, where she confirmed four new cases of COVID-19 had been detected in Auckland. She announced that Level 3 restrictions will be introduced, while the rest of the country will move into Level 2 restrictions.
