I never realized how much public school was just daycare until my own kids went. It's like 2 hours of education a day, tops.

But think about it, that's realistic prep for the working world (unless you're blue collar).

Excellent question.

A strangely large # of people I know say they work like 80-90% of their work day.

People you know isn't a valid data set. :-D

"Office Space" and personal experience taught me most white collar workers work 10 hours a week.

I believe the technical term for these people is "liars". I would also accept that they're insanely inefficient at their jobs.

I will absolutely have days, some consecutively, where I am bombarded and don't have a second to stop working. However, I've also had days where I could have been as productive if I stayed in bed and slept.

A lot of people in the South + Midwest said the coronavirus was a lie, and not worth doing anything about, etc, etc back in March + April. Now it’s hitting them cuz they did stupid things. From the president to their governors to their congress + state elected bodies on down.

When we take over Canada and reserve part of it for football, we can stick the virus deniers in the other parts.

It was my understanding that red state Ohio was a leader in covid response plans.

Kid at Indiana school tests positive on day 1. School continues.

260 employees in a Georgia district have tested positive or been exposed.

Our school system has announced their in person and online options. It's weird. Kids can go into school where they're assigned a homeroom. They will not leave that room all day and masks are mandatory. Headphones are mandatory as well. Why? Because while they share a class with other kids, schedules are still different. Thus, one kid might be in math class, via Zoom, while the kid next to them is in English, again via Zoom.

My kids want to go back and we're going to let them, but we're going to quarantine them two weeks before holidays.

Oh my. Let me tell you how well that shit worked out when I was at a technology conference last year. :)

We're doing virtual academy all year.

I know, but I can't tell them to not go back and socialize. They're going stir crazy. The good part is that we can pull them anytime we want.

Some of my oldest's close friends are not returning, but their families oddly break quarantine in other ways, so I'm not sure what that is about.

My kid is going back on the hybrid plan, but we also have the option to pull him out for 100% telecommuting.

Which the governor is trying to do anyway.

While watching the live school board announcement, I counted well over a dozen times where the speaker would say something like, "until the inevitable shutdown".

Trump is fighting it, but it's coming.

Conspiracy theory: Trump declares a national emergency after losing the election. His thinking is to try and delay leaving office.

Again............................................

Shutting schools down doesn't change anything as long as the doorknob lickers are still out there fighting for their freedom to lick doorknobs.

Or, he declares it right before and suspends it, or something. But that theory is apparently gaining some steam.
