The propaganda will say everyone right wing is a step closer to Hitler in the U.S. despite the fact that the historical similarities lie on the left side of the aisle.
I said from my vantage point, Bernie and Trump were about the same, and both their followers had committed violence. He replied with some junk about how it's not the followers who matter.
At any rate... yeah, Trump = Hitler is everywhere. People apparently have no idea who Hitler was.

No. Maybe from where you stand, but in an absolute sense the Nazis were neither left nor right. They were centrist authoritarian, which doesn't translate to Dems-vs-Repubs because it's on another axis at 90 degrees to the left-right spectrum.

Way more successful than Trump.

No, I mean when you look at certain things the left and right believe in, the left has more similarities with Nazis than the right.
I certainly was not doing the "Clinton (or Sanders) = Hitler" thing.

Oh, no, I understood you. And I disagree. The Nazis were all about strongly defending private property rights and privately owned businesses ... for aryans. Although called "National Socialism" when it came to the people they considered to be full citizens (just the aryans) they were in no way socialist. It's only when you consider what they did to the Jews and other minorities where everything was nationalized (i.e. confiscated). But I'm not really sure that a concentration camp counts as "public housing and welfare" from a standpoint of actual socialism.
On the whole they balanced out to being quite centrist. Neither left nor right by modern standards.

Time the fuck out.
The Nazis were all about strongly defending private property rights and privately owned businesses ... for aryans.
No, not even for Aryans. The SS could walk in to your house full of blonde-haired, blue-eyed Germans with ancestry from five centuries back and do whatever the fuck they wanted depending on how well you personally knew one of their superiors. Even the SS weren't sacrosanct because Himmler was psychotic enough to try and issue an order that said all their wives were communal for fellow members and encouraged extramarital fucking strictly for purposes of breeding more of the populace to fleece or put between them and an invading army. And make no mistake, fleece they did.
- In consideration of the monstrous sacrifice in property and blood that each war demands of the people, personal enrichment through a war must be designated as a crime against the people. Therefore we demand the total confiscation of all war profits.
-We demand the nationalisation of all (previous) associated industries (trusts).
-We demand a division of profits of all heavy industries.
From their own 25-point platform. Also...
-The state is to be responsible for a fundamental reconstruction of our whole national education program, to enable every capable and industrious German to obtain higher education and subsequently introduction into leading positions. The plans of instruction of all educational institutions are to conform with the experiences of practical life. The comprehension of the concept of the State must be striven for by the school [Staatsbürgerkunde] as early as the beginning of understanding. We demand the education at the expense of the State of outstanding intellectually gifted children of poor parents without consideration of position or profession.
- The State is to care for the elevating national health by protecting the mother and child, by outlawing child-labor, by the encouragement of physical fitness, by means of the legal establishment of a gymnastic and sport obligation, by the utmost support of all organizations concerned with the physical instruction of the young.
- For the execution of all of this we demand the formation of a strong central power in the Reich. Unlimited authority of the central parliament over the whole Reich and its organizations in general. The forming of state and profession chambers for the execution of the laws made by the Reich within the various states of the confederation. The leaders of the Party promise, if necessary by sacrificing their own lives, to support by the execution of the points set forth above without consideration.
They weren't concerned about protecting anyone's property except their own stash and they demanded, in their own words, "unlimited authority" to enforce that shit. On the flip side, most of the party leaders made good on their "dying for the common good" promise. Of course, they used as many people as possible as human shields before they committed suicide. They were to a man murderers, thugs, and thieves who ran a national mafia thinly disguised as a government. The main difference was some had more colourful imaginations and daydreams than the others.

Most of their points on that platform aren't socialism, they're mercantilism. The state doesn't confiscate, own, or run private industry but private industry is required to support the state's power. Socialism is all about sharing and so-called "social ownership" by the citizens through cooporative hippie hand-holding bullshit. Mercantilism is using governmental influence on private industry with the express goal of boosting production and making the state more powerful. These are very different systems, and the nazis weren't much for the hippie hand-holding.
Sure even good German aryans had to fear the SS, but that wasn't about economics. That wasn't about left or right. That was about authoritarianism, which is my point.

I never called them socialists. It's mercantilism in the same way shanking someone for their wallet is.

Yes, that's what mercantilism is. And it's not particularly left-wing.

A survey filled out and answered by someone in my Facebook feed:
1. What was the last thing you put in your mouth? Phillip's dick
Her and her mother are my wife's FB guilty pleasures. I honestly should start posting their stuff here.
Here's her mom responding to that...
U. Are so gross u should. Not. Put. Stuff like. That on Facebook u will be in trouble when u get. Home
The girl responds:
Its a post i cant lie on it
You have to respect her commitment to the truth!
The girl later the same day filled out another survey talking about how much she misses her ex and how she'd do anything to be with him again. Hint: It's not Phillip.
Did I mention she's in her early 20s and has two young kids that were both taken away from her immediately upon their birth? She's already lost her rights to the oldest one and will never get it back. She loses rights to the second one soon. She just did this post discussing it:
My little girl i love her so much i will kill for her cuz mommy loves u more than daddy does
Loves her so much so would kill for her, but can't get her life in order so she can regain custody...

Bumping this thread to vent and be a terrible human.
A couple-friend of ours from Atlanta had their dog killed by a coyote. They let the dog out unsupervised and after a while went to look for him and he was gone.
They are taking it bad. Bad like, going on the local news channels and saying "If we don't stop these coyotes, it could be YOUR CHILD, that is eaten next!"
And since our friend group is lousy with woman-with-young-children(ugh), it's spreading like wildfire on my facebook feed.
It's just some goddamn coyotes, we used to see them all the time in OTP Atlanta. I'm not saying your dog was a pussy, but I'm not-not saying that either. They are claiming that it's a pack of doberman-sized coyotes out for blood. And the only logical step is human flesh.
I understand this makes me a terrible person but I'm OK with this.

I blame two things. The humanization of animals. ("Oh! Look at the beautiful wildlife in the form of those wild coyotes running around"), and the continuing shrinking small farmer. 50-100 years ago people would shoot the wild coyote running through their back yard because they might be killing and eating their chickens or their neighbor's goats. It was sort of a neighborhood watch type responsibility.
Oh yeah, and people trapped a lot more.

Same thing happened here to a friend of my dad's several years ago, but she actually watched it happen. It was a tiny dog. If she had a German Shepard the coyote would have run away.
My sister-in-law got a dog that you can hold in one hand. They have to go outside with it every time because hawks will take it.
Kevin Smith saved his small dog from an owl once using an inflatable pool toy.
Pets can be as loved as a child, and I don't wish such a tragic end to anyone's best friend. However, there's no malice or evil in these animals. They're trying to eat to feed themselves and their family. They don't have any concept of what your pet means to you.
Should we punish birds when they eat a worm? Bats when they eat mosquitos? Lions when they eat a gazelle? Humans when they eat a burger? And for you scumbag vegans: Humans when they eat a vegetable?
It's all living things eating other living things. That's how it works. Sometimes it's brutal and emotionally devastating, but that's life.
But yeah, let's do something about the coyotes because they killed a pet for food, but not do anything about all these humans killing each other over colors or territory or drugs or whatever.
A scuba diver drowned recently, and his family was all over my scuba facebook groups calling for federal regulation of scuba diving. People suck.
No, you're wrong. Look at all the federal regulations and laws involved with driving cars and NOBODY dies in cars anymore...

While I agree with what you're saying here, I don't think it's wrong to control the populations of wild animals where they are interfering with our quality of life. Otherwise cancel your pest control can unplug that damn bug zapper on your porch!
Freakin' bug nazis.
