I could've bought the TSA (much like the Social Security Act) as a temporary fix that went away after a decade or so, not a permanent cog that we were missing up to that point in time. Once boxes of that kind are opened they are never closed specifically because the dudes in charge of closing them are the ones that benefit most from keeping them open.
It's like asking Congress if Congress needs a raise. Of course Congress says yes.

My hope at this point is that a small government guy becomes President and uses the NSA databases to go back and pull all the "deleted" and otherwise lost documents of all the scandals over the last few years. Let some of these jokers go to prison and I think we'd see all sorts of legislation reining in federal authority.
