Rust - A thread for dying
Early on I fell in a wooden hole while building my house in the dark and had to kill myself with (my only) grenade because I was stuck at the bottom.
Oh hey there was an update today:
http://playrust.com/
Beds are necessary for groups it looks like. If you play together you have to pay for it.
Also shared doors that are in-game.
If this means going into the weekend on a brand new server with the update I am totally cool with that. The best part of this game is starting from nothing. Maybe the patch will carry over though.

The old server was down today so we restarted on a new server for the new patch. I tried to shake someone down for 100 wood but failed.
This one is more populated so far but is brand new. Did your base get raided? The old house hasn't been touched in a while.
The new friend tab has been helpful when we were switching servers.

Nope, still completely secure so far. But it would take a minimum of one blown wall and two doors to get in, and that's a lot of explosives to use on an unknown target, so I expect to be fine for now.
I'm not sure I want to start over just yet, but I may join you. Depends on which whim strikes me.

So I die, and respawn. Completely lost. I get lost in my own back yard, let alone dropped in some random spot. And I always manage to die late in the day so it ends up getting too dark to find home and have to sit in the dark for a while. Running and running trying to get my bearings. Running out of food. Keep running. Keep running in big circles. I'm horrible. End up back near big rad and I'm out of food and starving to death. I see someone up ahead and figure, "I'm going to die no matter what. I'll see if this guy will give me food or he'll kill me. Whatever." So I run up and ask the guy, who's got a pistol on me if he's got some food. I don't know if he saw my name before saying "Sure, come on in" But it was TPR! I had bears and zombies in tow. He opens the door and I run in and he locks the bad things outside. Gives me some food and I run out the door for home again.
I run and run and run. Just when I think I'm getting close, I have a ton of zombies on me. One just won't leave me alone. He's in a red shirt, so I try to fight him to make him stop chasing me. He kills me. I respawn. No idea where. Start down the road an really compare what I'm seeing to the map. The sun is low enough in the sky to help with directions. I start running west and eventually find fucking home. Only took me about 5 minutes of running. I hit the rad town to hit a couple of boxes and then run home to take a break.
At one point, after leaving TPR's place, I run a big fucking circle and end up back at his place. I see a guy with no shirt on and run to see if that's him. It's not and he's bee lining for me. I turn and run. There's another guy. Check him out, it's not TPR and this guy smacks me with a hatchet. I circle around TPR's house once, asking if he's in there. No response and I don't see him in there either. I run through Rad Town. They are chasing me, taunting me "Come and meet your judgement". I keep running and they stop chasing. This was the pass I finally made the correct turn to make it home. So, now I know how to get home from TPR's place.

I tried to do the /share door thing, but apparently that's not how it works now. I left that place after you led the bears away and went looking for more stuff and made a shelter elsewhere. That was just a temporary hidey-hole and I didn't want to log out there. Not that a shelter is much better, but at least it's not right on the road for anyone to find.
I did see it was you before I said to come in, but you seemed friendly and safely unarmed so I would have helped anyway.

Not very elegant or secure, but better than a simple wooden shelter for an initial bolt hole.

Man. What a night! Started out slow, but got a good solid base started. Made some loot runs and got some decent equipment. Got into a couple solid gun fights coming out way ahead. Got into a couple more and got our asses kicked!
I've been running laggy though. It's hard for me to hit moving targets because of the rubber banding. I turned the graphics way down (I thought I had already done that) and in the 'house' test I did with Troy, it seemed better. Will find out for sure tomorrow.
However, at this point, we can craft our own automatic weapons, and that's huge. At least we can keep up with the competition now. We are very close to a large war. Too close and it spills into our yard. They out nubmer us, and out gun us. Time to move?!

We could set our sites on a future metal house where Tim was talking about? Use our spot for resources and then build it up. Metal Walls are a bitch to blast on. We don't have the loot yet though.
I scrounged some armor and pistols in the night. No heavier stuff. Perimeter up and windows on the second level.

This is what early UO felt like.

Now all you've got to do is keep finding decent enough games in early stages to continue switching to after the previous one inevitably gets Trammeled.

Speaking of which I almost forgot. First of all, we definitely beat in a guys door and murderered him for his resources last night. Also so Leisher could kill someone. But that didn't work out, I think the dude had a bow.
Instead, Leisher decided to get his first kill a much darker way....

What happened to you last night Stranger? I had to mercy kill you so we could save your equipment. (You were starving to death.)
By the way, I found a "Small Stash" at Big Civ. It's a bag with a question mark on it. I can't seem to do anything with it...?
Also, the new campfire keeps going out every time it cooks 2 chicken breasts. What's that about?

You can place it on the ground and put stuff in it. Three slots. And it's very hard to see unless you are right on top of it, so it's good for hiding caches around. Just be sure to have very good landmarks or you'll never find it again.
