Starship Troopers.... REMAKE MOTHER FUCKERS

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

I hope they keep it serious and gritty like the original

If they get Jake Busey to reprise his criminally overlooked performance in that movie, I'm sold.

Maybe they should try to make it have at least a passing resemblance to the book instead of basing it on this unforgivable turd of a movie that serves as the perfect example of how to best shit all over your source material.

Unlikely, I know, but I can dream, can't I?

Robert A. Heinlein’s original Starship Troopers novel has widely been criticized as a celebration of war, militarism and even fascism.

Well, there's a fine example of completely failing to get the point of a novel.

Yep. I also like how he said, "Hollywood can't leave good enough alone" in regard to making a remake, and doesn't see the irony in his own statement about the original story being changed.

Reboot or TV Show? Original screenwriter has an opinion.

Essentially, if it follows the source material, he isn't interested.

At the risk of re-hashing: the "original" Verhoeven movie was never really based on Heinlein's novel to begin with. PV wanted to make a sci-fi bug-killing movie, and some lawyer told him that was already called Starship Troopers so he needed to get the rights for that. Then he made whatever story he wanted to do anyway.

Kind of like how Tag went down ..

Read the novel after having seen the movie. Some stuff I'd have liked to have seen in the movie (proper treatment of the armor would have been cool), but mostly there really wasn't enough actual meat to the story to make a movie where you'd care about anyone.

A lot of the older sci-fi had that issue. They were so focused on the ideas that they really didn't develop the characters and drama.

The novel's concepts of government and citizenship is what's most fascinating.

Are you sure you read the novel? Because it's a goddam bildungsroman. It's all ABOUT character development.

In the game I'm playing (Idle Heroes) someone suggested that I be promoted to . . . something. Higher than just a member. I said "I'll do it until I'm dead or you find someone better!" There was no response.

Yeah, I read it. Long on thesis. Short on plot.

Edit: Just went back and reread the plot outline. I think it was just short on color for the plot. It's funny to read the plot on Wiki. Other than the armor combat, the movie followed the plot outline to a "T".

The problem is that it didn't take it seriously. It mocked it. Thus the use of the "propaganda" posters, font, messages, etc. from WWII. (Because that was totes evil. The screenwriter apparently this we should have just minded our own business as the Nazis conquered Europe and murdered Jews.)
