I'd say people hate Carolina, but they've never done anything to get anyone's attention. ZING!
I think it's a combination of the endless national media attention and the perception of dirty players.
Just because James Harrison doesn't play for you now doesn't mean he didn't exist. He was real classy.
I didn't realize the Steelers locked up "dirty players" because of James Harrison. I honestly always thought Harrison was just an aggressive asshole, and not dirty.
I also didn't realize Carolina was filled with classy, church going types. Did they cut Steve Smith and Cam Newton?
Every team has those kinds of players. Every team. That's the world of professional athletes, and every team's fans think the other team has dirty players.
As for the national attention, they get that because they win. The Steelers and the Cowboys are #1 and 2 for winning percentage since the merger. The Steelers have the most Super Bowl victories, and are either alone or tied for most Super Bowl appearances. They have the second longest current streak of winning seasons (10). And again, see my previous post about their attendance, gear sold, etc. That's why you hear about them.
Ditto for New England who has the current longest streak of winning seasons.
The Cowboys get more press than anyone, and that's why a lot of folks hate them.
National media attention is why so many people hate the Jets right now. Because apparently, they're ESPN's favorite team.
It's why people hate the Yankees and Red Sox.
The fact is if it didn't sell, they wouldn't be putting these teams at the forefront. Funny how the MSM wants to talk about relevant teams. The flex was installed for Sunday night football so NBC could air important games instead of the Giants vs Tampa Bay.
Let the Panthers get a few glory years where everyone talks about them, and watch how fast other fan bases start to hate them citing bullshit like "dirty players".

To quote one of the MNF football announcers, "If I ever go into a dark alley, I want Steve Smith to have my back."
It's why people hate the Yankees and Red Sox.
Unless you're looking to make the Steelers look like default pariah douchebags, don't say this.

That would be true if the reader was ignoring the context of the statement.
It's about MSM coverage and hype, not about the teams themselves.

The Yankees and Sox don't need media help to make people hate them. When I think of either of those teams, my first reaction is always, "Fuckers trying to buy another championship." Yep, both top 4. I can't apply that to the Steelers. They remind me more of the Red Wings. "Oh, it's those fuckers again. Break out the chains and broken bottles, time to go to war."
I have no great love for Pittsburgh but I don't have any great hate for them, either. Do they get lots of media attention? Yeah, being the oldest AFC team will do that. They typically end up at least being competitive, too.

That is true, but they also get a ton of love from the East Coast media because of who they are, and not just what they spend. Remember, we've been watching EVERY FUCKING Yankee-Red Sox game on national TV since before the Red Sox started spending Yankee cash.
That stat is pretty meaningless. Compare the +9 to +125 differential between points scored and allowed.
I agree with that. At the end of the day, the only stat that matters is wins.

I read the whole Deadspin thing today. He seems to think the org was out to get him, and has 1 or 2 damming quotes about his special teams coach. Can't tell if the quotes were serious, or just trying to get Kluwe's goat.
Basically, sounds like they didn't like him speaking out, the special teams coach especially, and that + his salary got him canned.
Meanwhile other players on the team said the coach never said that stuff. And the salary and Kluwe's stats justified the firing.

I'm pretty sure Kluwe is smart enough to know he could get sued for slander/libel. I don't think he made it up. People still on the team, working for that coach, aren't exactly 100% reliable.

The other people in your division are the only 3 teams who played the same 14 opponents you did. Make the divisions mean something. I love that last week of football with the division games across the board.

Flacco and Dalton have to be neck and neck for "QB that most crippled his team's postseason chances" award. Least Dalton got in, though. Damn, he looks bad, like Mark Sanchez's long-lost ginger brother.

I don't know who the Bears' GM is, but he should be fired. Actually, he should have been fired two weeks ago, apparently.
Still not as bad as the Flacco deal. Close second, though.
