That's someone making idiotic statements out of frustration. The better athlete is sometimes a bigger asshole.

There's a difference between asshole and killing someone.

The courts acquitted him. Meanwhile other players actually kill people and don't get hammered as badly.

No they didn't. He made a deal to testify against the other two, and then he did, in fact, pay off the families of the victims.

Not saying he murdered someone, but we don't know the truth of that night. Nor do we know where the white suit he wore that night went.

Look, I don't mind Lewis. He's made it very clear to the league, including rookies, that he is ALWAYS available if they need someone to talk to. Hell, he has had conversations with Steelers, including Big Ben, to help them through tough times.

I see a guy who was involved in two murders, in some way, who reversed the course of his life on the spot. Is the world better because of his experience? Maybe. Seriously. Who knows who else he has helped. Who knows what other tragedies were avoided because he grew up really fast one evening.

I just find Welkers' wife's comments to have some truth to them. Sometimes we forgive because of celebrity.

Sometimes we forgive because of celebrity.

Rehab is celebrity, and vice versa. Does it help he's a famous football player? Yeah. But how many people have had best sellers on their own "overcoming adversity" schtick? The public, unless you do something taboo (Sandusky-esque), is apt to forgive because then it means all the times they fuck up, they believe they've got company and the potential to unfuck things.

EDIT: In retrospect, the Ravens should've hired a dude to stand on the sidelines, wear a sign that says "Tape this", and just flip off NE the entire night.

A lot of folks have forgiven Polanski for raping a child. Why? Because he made some movies? Whoopie! The standing ovation he was given at the Oscars a few years back was one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen.

Is Ray Lewis a great player? Yes.
Is he a role model on the field? Yes.
Is he a role model off the field? Probably not.

Mrs. Welker's post was all sour grapes, but as I said, it had some truth to it.

And the Ravens aren't the team who should be doing the middle finger thing at the Patriots. The Steelers should be that team. The Patriots, literally, cheated the Steelers out of the Super Bowl a few times during Spygate.

C'mon, his weight's down from 320 to 308. That's twelve less pounds for a pass rusher to grab at.

From the world o' football:

Junior Seau's family sues. This could be interesting. If they get cash, the NFL turns into an ATM for families of any player that died under a certain set of circumstances. Think of the impact on other sports in terms of precedent (I'm looking squarely at you, hockey).

Perhaps case in point, Tim Brown accuses former Raiders coach of throwing the Super Bowl. I'd normally call total bullshit out of the gate, but the only thing salvaging this rumour is that Jerry Rice is backing it.

JaMarcus Russell's sanity lessens further.

He's batshit insane.

Unless they can absolutely prove the NFL knew more about concussions than it did/does, they will lose.

It's a violent sport. You assume certain risks when you suit up. Deal with it. It's a trade off really. Fame, fortune, and your family's security versus the risk of permanent injury.

Next thing you know, a hockey player will sue the NHL after he gets into a melee on the ice. He can claim the league knew fights were a part of the game, but did nothing to protect players.

Perhaps case in point, Tim Brown accuses former Raiders coach of throwing the Super Bowl. I'd normally call total bullshit out of the gate, but the only thing salvaging this rumour is that Jerry Rice is backing it.

Nobody on a football team is a bigger Prima Donna than the receivers. (Excluding New England, of course.) Brown played a terrible game in the Super Bowl. Ditto for Rice. The rest of the team supports the coach, and the coach himself has ripped their claims.

Seems a lot like sour grapes.

Jerry seems less likely to bitch about losing his last Super Bowl considering he's won them before. They probably do just hate the coach or whatnot. Raiders have sucked since that loss.

I'm waiting for that shit. Fighting in hockey is something the NHL could easily stop but won't.

In the world of football today...

Randy Moss is all-time best WR, according to Randy Moss. This has "troll" written all over it, so I'll let the final lines of the article speak for themselves.
He has 982 catches for 15,292 yards and 156 touchdowns in his 14-season career. Hall of Famer Jerry Rice, who now is an ESPN NFL analyst, leads the all-time lists in those three categories with 1,549 receptions, 22,895 yards and 197 touchdown receptions.

Joe "Mr. Inconsistency" Flacco weights in about the 2014 Super Bowl venue.
I think it's retarded. I probably shouldn't say that.

Dirty Sanchez or JaMarcus? Kind of like asking which testicle you'd like to be kicked in.

Joe Flaco, you just cost your team the Super Bowl! What will you do now?

They could also provide some salt to rub in their wounds. Also, up for hypocrite of the year is Roger Goodell, who is simultaneously saying he wants to protect players, their health, and their future, but also wants to tack on another eight quarters of pain to the regular season.

Leisher wrote:AP went on a tear? Has anyone else noticed?

I'm teasing, but not. Seriously, his season might be the most unreported thing of consequence that's occurring this season. I've seen Cam Newton's asshole behavior covered a LOT more. In fact, I'm pretty sure I've only seen AP's season discussed once. (Keep in mind that I don't live in Minnesota.)
Someone noticed.
