The Packers are the team I least wanted the Steelers to face.

Steel Curtain was fine. I figured they wouldn't stop Rogers the whole game, but the 4 injuries, no penalties for the Packers, and two turnovers in the first half killed them. Without the three turnovers, the Steelers win that game easily. Ben played like shit too and that didn't help.
Oh well, 6 wins in 8 Super Bowls in still pretty good. I don't hate Green Bay, so it doesn't hurt that much. Losing to Arizona would've sucked a lot more.

So far, I'm just stunned that nothing more has happened. And I still can't believe the players weren't banned from the post season game.
Hundreds of Buckeye players and ex-players were potentially involved. There were thousands and thousands of items, jerseys, cleats and so on available to be profited off. There was a player’s parking lot full of cars mostly bought from just two used car lots. There were question upon question over behavior that shouldn’t pass anyone’s smell test waiting to be answered.
Yet Smith said the Buckeyes had checked it all out in 11 days flat.
No other NCAA violations …
Sitting next to Smith was coach Jim Tressel, who in fact had committed other NCAA violations all by himself. Eight months prior he’d been made aware of the memorabilia sales but stayed quiet and covered it up. He then knowingly played ineligible players for the entire 2010 season and then let his athletic director lie for him that December night.

Earlier this week, former Buckeye basketball player Mark Titus wrote on his blog that he’d long been curious of how football players kept driving cars beyond the means of most students, let alone scholarship athletes. “I’ll be shocked if the NCAA doesn’t find anything when they look into this car scandal,” he wrote.
I always wondered the same thing about UNC basketball players, quite frankly. Brand new SUVs, driving around campus, "on loan" from dealerships, or some such.

I don't care for Yahoo Sports as they are famously anti-Big Ten, but the article makes good points, especially with what happened at USC today.
Everyone here thinks the hammer is going to get dropped on OSU and the NCAA has to make an example out of them after letting Cam Newton and Auburn off the hook to protect the national title game.
The problem with that is that the NCAA let Cam Newton and Auburn off the hook. Meanwhile, they blasted USC, and now are going after Oregon. Bye Bye Pac 10. The Big 12 is decimated, and is really a two dog show (if that). The Big East is a joke. The ACC hasn't been the same in years. Notre Dame hasn't been a true contender in many decades. Of the small schools, Boise State is now under investigation. Taking Ohio State off the board means the Big Ten is less relevant.
Who is going to play the SEC darling of the year in the national title game?
No wonder the SEC dominates college football, outside of Tennessee, nobody gets busted for shit. Over the last two years, Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, and South Carolina have all been under investigation for serious violations. To date, only Tennessee has faced any punishment. Meanwhile, the NCAA does it's best to take out any decent competition in other conferences.

Why? What's more important, a multimillion dollar deal with corporate sponsors or punishing some kids for getting free or 50% off tattoos? The NCAA had no choice.
Again, let me point out that Cam Newton played in the national championship game. They caught him with both hands in the cookie jar, but punishing him would have been a disaster because the scandal broke too late. If Auburn had lost a late game, I think the NCAA would have miraculously found evidence against him.

EVERY school has players who cheat. To suggest otherwise is ridiculous. Hell, even Harvard and Yale students get preferential treatment.
While I don't think these athletes should be given massive salaries (they already get a free education at the school of their choice), I do think more could be done by the schools to reign them in, and more done by the NCAA to acknowledge that taking classes and participating in a full time sport is difficult enough without also trying to fit in a part time job to help make ends meet.
Back to OSU, I personally think it could go either way.
The NCAA's recent letter of charges seemed to suggest that they didn't hold the school responsible for the majority of the infractions, but that Tressell was in trouble. I wouldn't be surprised to see similar sanctions that USC got or minor sanctions on OSU, but the end of Jim Tressel at Ohio State. In fact, no matter what, I think we've seen the end of Jim. Pretty sad considering had he told the school back when he first found out, neither he nor the school would be facing ANY sanctions.

I don't get why all the TV personalities are acting so shocked about Tressel. There have been players getting in trouble for stuff or being found out after they left school all through his run in college. Clarrett, Holmes, Smith, etc. Plus shady stuff was going on at Youngstown St. I don't know how much he knew about so saying that he was encouraging it or was just putting his head in the sand and not wanting to know about it is up for debate. You listen to the talking heads and they keep saying stuff like "Well if you can't believe Tressel who can you believe?" The answer is nobody because there are kids taking money at all schools but how is this a big shock?

I'll be surprised if Tressel is still there, and there isn't some larger institutional punishment. It's one thing to have the head coach not know (these teams are huge, kids are going to do dumb things). But to know about it, and do nothing.
As for Newton, the only thing they could prove is that the dad shopped him around, and that he didn't go to the place from which his dad demanded money. To me, the kid is innocent. Banning his dad from football contact (or whatever they did), is just dumb though.
Crap like this is just going to continue to happen though as long as the colleges are the lower league of pro football. Honestly, I'm fine with them getting more stipends, resources, or whatever it takes through college. The NCAA is already a fraud. The Fiesta Bowl should have been removed, or given the death penalty.

Thing is, Tressel nor the school set this benefit up. Tressel found out and hid it, but once the school actually found out they self-reported immediately. That's what the NCAA's letter said too.

That's not true though. Newton texted one of the guys involved a statement like "I'm going to Auburn because the money is too good." He knew what was going on. We're not talking about Tebow, this is Newton. His record coming into Auburn was already really shitty and people were wondering why he was still eligible at all. NCAA violations AND criminal activity on campus were in his immediate past before arriving at Auburn.
The NCAA didn't bother to go looking for those texts during their "investigation". That's why a lot of people are so critical of them right now. The first thing they did in the Tressel situation was ask for records of phone calls and texts. When the Newton story first broke we learned that all communication was done via phone calls and texts. The NCAA didn't bother looking there, why?
Honestly, I'm fine with them getting more stipends, resources, or whatever it takes through college.
The whole system needs to be re-evaluated.

Do you have links for that? I've never heard that Cam sent texts like that.
No, I don't. This is just my memory of the story when it was first coming out, BEFORE it was really getting big national attention. I could be remembering things incorrectly, but I'm 99% sure that I'm not. I know of two other people who claim to remember the same quote, but I also know people who never heard it, like you.
This quote came from the former Miss State player who was trying to recruit Cam. He's the one who talked to the feds. And FYI, that's the interesting twist to the Cam Newton situation. The feds haven't cleared (or arrested) anyone. I know I'm not the only person who has pointed that out either.
The information about the NCAA not going after the phone records I've seen in various places as criticism for how differently they're handling the Tressel case versus the Cam case.
Cam Newton was dirty. He knew what was going on with his father. Every single person on the Miss State side of that story said Cam was fully aware of what was going on, yet the NCAA cleared him? Bullshit.

Publicly crucify them all. College sports are rapidly reaching parity with professional ones with respect to general douchiness and corruption.
