Are you really on the side trying to restrict free speech? People in my facebook friend list are.
I am of the opionion that the free speach argument get hidden behind way to much. Just way to easy to try to end an argument or discussion.
People have there rights trampled by the government all the time. Im not allowed to pray in school or at the beginning of a football game if I had a mind to. It might blister peoples ears to hear a prayer.
Well I guess this wouldn't even be up for debate if someone had enough brains not to put cross hairs on a map for districts she wants eliminated. Did it inspire a nut. Don't know. But I thought it was massively wrong when she first did it.

Not to go on a tangent, but I'm pretty sure they can't stop YOU from praying. I believe the rule is that the school can't officially lead a prayer.

Again, I'm not a big Palin fan, but why is she being singled out for this tactic? It's essentially marketing for voters, and various candidates from each party have been doing this sort of thing forever.

Palin had ZERO to do with the shootings in Arizona. To even imply that she had any sort of influence is ridiculous.

Or maybe the dog did tell David Berkowitz what to do...

You can't censor the entire world trying to keep from giving wack jobs bad ideas any more than you can censor content for adults just to keep children from accidentally seeing it. The movement to do so smacks of a police state. It is upsetting to me that so many people don't have a problem with that.

That's a good point. How about the many, many cases of office and school shootings that have occurred throughout history and in all countries on this planet? Are they all Palin's fault? Are any the fault of the actual shooter?

Majority of Americans say "Whatever happened to crazy?" (If you don't get the reference, the article says most people believe political rhetoric had nothing to do with the shooting.)

Interestingly, Republicans overwhelmingly believed politics had nothing to do with the shooting. independents were next at around 60%. However, only 49% of Democrats believed political rhetoric had nothing to do with the shooting.

Considering all the shooter's "friends" claim he was a left wing nutjob, I find the fact that less than half of Dems thinking political rhetoric wasn't a factor, AND a huge movement by Dems to blame Palin, to be very telling.

So, if someone shoots a Congressman with a bow and arrow now, we can't use arrows to point at or indicate things anymore? When someone punches a Congressman, we can't use fingers anymore? When we develop the first laser rifle, I bet we won't be able to use laser pointers anymore, either.

From what I have been reading for the last 2 days, Republicans say this had nothing to do with politics and are pissed at having a finger pointed at them, and Democrats are saying that the huge wave of Republicans saying it isn't their fault means they know they are guilty and are trying to hide it.

I've had to stop reading other peoples' opinions.

NY republican also wants to cash on in collective social stupidity and get reelected.

I remember seeing some graph showing the number of bills shot down or never heard of again absolutely skyrocketing during the end of Congressional sessions. If you can spout all the idiotic rhetoric and platitudes you want and not have to follow through on it, and your constituents don't care ...

EDIT : Wait a sec. What about their bodyguards?

What I started to bitch about had nothing to do with politics. It is a way of thinking. I believe it wrong for Palin to put a cross hairs even on a map. I am standing up for what I think is correct. Ms, Palin didn't put a gun to anyones head. But she is irrisponsible. Now it has become polital. Someone when it came out should have drawn the line saying enoug is enough that is to far.
It needs to end on both sides.
Who was the famous person who sworn to move from this country if so and so was elected. If people ever elected Paline I could make good on that promise. Sorry but she is piece of shit that fucked up McCains chances of being president, Or was it a calulated move?

From here.

In particular, this part...

Tobacco 435,000
Poor Diet and Physical Inactivity 365,000
Alcohol 85,000
Microbial Agents 75,000
Toxic Agents 55,000
Motor Vehicle Crashes 26,347
Adverse Reactions to Prescription Drugs 32,000
Suicide 30,622
Incidents Involving Firearms 29,000
Homicide 20,308
Sexual Behaviors 20,000
All Illicit Drug Use, Direct and Indirect 17,0001,
Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs Such As Aspirin 7,600

Better not draw any marks involving cars, tobacco, or alcohol, they kill people, too. I saw this one bar marked on Google Maps with a beer and some dude though that he was meant to go there and drink himself to death.

I hope Sarah Palin dies

In terms of guessing if the action in question is actually a prelude to an actual murder, I fail to see any difference between putting that text on a website and placing crosshairs on someone on a website.

I can't think of a more direct way to imply death other than the black and white words at the top of this post.

But no, it is the right wing that invented angry, hate-filled rhetoric.

That's the point.

I have no problem with t people expressing themselves. I do, however, have a major problem with their hypocrisy.

Not sure how people can blame Palin and say that "the right's hate filled rhetoric" fuels violence like this and then turn around and spew hate filled rhetoric that encourages violence. Meanwhile, they're claiming to be intellectually superior and that they believe in non-violence.

You either have to be bat shit insane or a really stupid individual to think it makes sense to condemn all violence and violent speech while openly asking for someone to die violently.
