I don't understand how the kicking team pushing a player into the punt returned (who had called for a fair catch) isn't a penalty.

Otherwise, wouldn't players just try to use that tactic all the time?

It definitely should have been.

But you can't review it and change that, I guess.

Ok, according to the ref and rulebook.

You can't just "push" a player in, because normally after hearing fair catch, the receiving team is supposed to stop blocking and "engaging" the kicking team. Then what happened would have been illegal.

If the blockers don't hear the returner signal the fair catch, and keep fighting/engaging the kicking team, all bets are off, and what he did is legal.

Sounds kind of BSey, but it's in the rulebook.

It's a weekend of GREAT quarterback play.

Unless of course, you are a Panthers fan. Then its a weekend of run plays.

Why the fuck is Brady still in? I hope he gets fucking knocked out for the season again. There's no earthly reason why he wasn't pulled after the first half.

Yeah. Everyone on DirectTV got the game cut.

Also, remember when Philly had a running game? Or a WR to throw to?

I was at the game, I'm pretty sure he gave up on play-calling a long time ago.

Maybe he & Spurrier can start a support group.

This weekend did nothing to improve my understanding of who's legit and who isn't.

How did Philly lose to Oakland?

I guess the top teams in the NFC are The Saints and the Vikings. The Saints were exposed a bit by the Jets though as their defense did all the scoring there. The offense only scored 10. As for the Vikings, they've been really lucky twice now.

Who comes after them?

Arizona? San Francisco? They're in the NFC West, and Arizona has to prove last year wasn't a fluke.

The Giants, Eagles, or Cowboys? The Giants will be in the playoffs. The Eagles are a mystery and it will get worse with Vick chants. The Cowboys suck.

Atlanta? This team is good, but how good? They should be in the playoffs.

Chicago and Green Bay? Chicago got lucky against Pittsburgh who missed two field goals and had their Super Bowl MVP drop a wide open touchdown to allow them to drive for the winning score. Green Bay has no offensive line.

I guess the top teams in the AFC are Indy and Denver. Indy hasn't played anyone, and let's be honest, they should rename themselves the Indianapolis Mannings. I still don't buy Denver. That's still Kyle Orton throwing the ball.

Houston? Houston can apparently still win games, but I don't buy them as legit.

The AFC East? I think the Jets, Bills, and Dolphins are too erratic. The Patriots are too old and have too many holes now. People can go on and on about 59-0, but the true story is that the Titans have quit. NE didn't score 59 on a focused contender, they scored 59 on a team that doesn't care anymore. A team that has no pride. A team that hasn't won a game since stomping on the terrible towel.

San Diego? Speaking of erratic...If they won tonight by 20 or lost by 20, would anyone be surprised either way?

Pittsburgh, Baltimore, or Cincinnati? I don't buy Cincinnati. Unlucky loss to Denver, yes. However they got lucky against the Steelers, and just lost to Houston at home, while losing their leading pass rusher. Baltimore is a little long in the tooth on defense, and their secondary is 26th in the league. Pittsburgh's D has taken a step back this year, particularly in the 4th quarter.

So yeah, I have no idea right now who will be playing in February.

I guess parity really is back.

The NFC is pretty clearly led by the Saints, the Vikings, and the Giants... probably in that order, but any given day, they could all beat each other.

The Eagles beat: Panthers, Chiefs, and Tampa. All those teams suck ass, we now know. They're 8-8 at best.

Cowboys, Atlanta, and Arizona will round out the playoffs.

AFC: New England and Indy. Denver will be up there, but mostly cuz their division sucks.
Pittsburgh will win the north.

No idea who the wild card teams would be. I'm going to pencil in Cincy and.... (throws dart) Houston.

AFC East : Pats & Jets might duking it out. NE isn't the same domination team from a couple years back. They're mortal. The Jets greatly depend on what Sanchez does. Which is why I'm not optimistic about them.

AFC North : I'm calling Steelers here. Their D is good enough & their offense is still the loaded w\ a decent QB & enough quality WRs. The only threat comes if Flacco, Ray Rice, & company start seriously kicking ass.

AFC South : Colts. Game over.

AFC West : The Broncos ... maybe. It's still Kyle Orton & it's still RB by half-assed committee, so nothing's locked up. The Chargers would need to pull their heads out of their asses ... getting a running game would be a nice start.

NFC East : Giants look to win this rather pussy division. Their receiving corp isn't as good as the stats they've put up. I'll retract that statement if Mario Manningham & the other Steve Smith finish in the top 20 WRs in the NFL by the end of the season.

NFC North : Vikings. Game over. They really, really need to start showing up for the entire game, though. Playing 2 or 3 quarters out of 4 ain't gonna work forever. All bets are off if AP gets injured.

NFC South : New Orleans. They're sickeningly overpowered offense has been making up for their lackluster D. Anyone that lets the Lions rack up 20+ points is in trouble. If they had Denver's D, they'd be fucking gangbusters. Atlanta might present a threat, but they need to improve both offense & D before I'll give them a shot. They've played two real teams (NE & Chicago) & they're 1-1.

NFC West : The Cardinals? I can't get behind the 49ers because Shaun Hill's the QB, & I'm not sold on the l33tness of Crabtree. Seattle's looking like they're starting to get serious, but they've got jack & shit on their RB committee.
