Here.

Apparently it's an "attack on their business model."
Apple argues that "jailbreakers" are breaking the law. And if the EFF gets its way, the company contends, "it will destroy the 'chain of trust' that Apple has carefully engineered into the product to protect users from serious functional problems that often result from unauthorized modifications to the device's OS. It will potentially open up the iPhone to security holes and malware, as well as possible physical damage."

Looks like Apple's biz model is, "You don't buy from anyone other than us or people we approve of. Ever. Period. Now shut the fuck up & buy a next gen [insert shitty iDevice here]."

Once the bill is paid, the owner can do with it as they please IMO. Apple can stick it up their ass.

No shit. Otherwise, I just may as well fucking license the tech & commission some third-party to build one for me.

It's the same mentality that leads to DRM. "We control this technology and you will use it the way we tell you to. The customer is always wrong."

The war on piracy looks to be going about as well as the war on drugs.

Ironically, it was an anti-piracy warning decades ago that first piqued my interest in looking into the subject for the first time.

Sorry Catt, I was in my own mindset thinking about Apple's attempts to keep everything proprietary and how they're essentially squeezing their consumers like lemons. I forgot this article was about iPhones. I got lost in my own thoughts.

Still, since we're talking phones and MP3 players, my Zune is not a phone, nor would I want it to be. I'm not sure why peeps want their phone to be their MP3 player.

Maybe they want a shorter battery life? Maybe they want less privacy? I don't know.

I think they want to carry as few things as possible.

The iPhone appeals to me, it's just too damned expensive, especially the monthly plans. My wife and I pay $57/month (tax/etc included) for wireless. 1 iPhone alone is $80/month

Same here. I think its cool and the gadget fan in me really wants one but the cost is way too much, a couple thousand bucks in total for a cell phone. No way.

I have read two different stories talking about price reductions on the way. The next iphones will have the usual bigger HD space but will also be able to take videos and have better screen resolution and the current iphones will be available still at a lower price and will be slightly slower as far as the date plan. The articles also said that apple sources were telling them that a limited data plan would be offered but no word on the cost and number of minutes.

I'd like one, but the form factor is a problem for me. I carry my Blackberry in my pocket with my keys. I need a clamshell form factor to keep it from getting scratched and broken. When they come out with a clamshell iPhone (or good clone) I'll be there.

I moved my cellphone to the other pocket (with my wallet) due to scratching and such (even with my clamshell phone)

I want an iphone too. But the extra $720 for two years use is stopping me so far.

My current cell phone is in a metal case to protect it.

What are the bad things about the iphone? Aren't there issues with getting certain types of emails, or messages or something. Something like they didn't use some protocol that every other phone/email system uses, or something like that?

Not that I am aware of. It supports ActievSync (for Exchange), IMAP, and pop3/smtp.

The only major think along those lines I know of is no Flash support yet.

Hmm thought there was something. . . text messages and everything work? Picture texting, etc?

How about the data plan. Is it only for use on the phone, or can I use the phone as a modem for my laptop. Anyone know?

Sorry about hijacking the thread.
