Blu-Ray
To you video techies, if you were to recommend a Blu-Ray player today which one would you recommend? Stick with something in the entry level price range please.

I'm on my third PS2, the first two having lasted six months and four months respectively. I used them as DVD players a lot. The third one has lasted two years now, and I've not used it as a DVD player at all (bought a cheap DVD player at the time I picked up my third PS2).

Well people tend to lie to you, so I'll just ignore that since I've never heard it before.
Suck on that!
I just googled "ps3 reliability", I hit almost every link in the first 2 pages, and 100% of them said, to summarize, "Yep; it seems they learnt well from the mistakes of PS2. For all its faults; the build quality and all-round robustness of PS3 seems to be exemplary."
But there have also been rumors of sub $150 dedicated BD players on Black Friday, so I dunno. May want to just go that route................. but some players are better than others, and it probably won't be the really good players at that price.

Oh, cool! I've held off on getting a PS3 partly because the PS2s hadn't been so long-lasting. I think perhaps it's time I considered getting one, then.
When I buy a game system I want it to last awhile. I still have an Atarti 2600 and a Colecovision I play with every few years.

Every night when I head to bed, I throw a DVD into the player and fall asleep to it. The TV has a sleep timer, DVD players don't.
In the 7 years I've lived in my house I've gone through 3 Sony DVD players in my bedroom (the rest of the house has suffered zero DVD player outages, but the VCR that used to be in my office died a few years back).
About a year and a half ago I bought a $30 generic player to put in the bedroom and that thing has shown no signs of slowing down and even plays scratched DVDs my upgraded Sony DVD player in the living room refuses to play.
Point being, I don't fear going off brand to get a deal.

I have a Sony DVD Upgrade player. It is the worst electronics purchase I've ever made.

Yeah, upscaling.
This Sony model...if the disc even looks like it might not be in mint condition, the player has a really hard time reading it.
I can throw the same disc in my no name $30 model in the bedroom and it'll play it like a champ.

Yeah my sony DVD player won't play most of the blockbuster disc anymore but the other DVD players($30 ones) play fine.Leisher wrote:Yeah, upscaling.

I think I'll end up with a Blu-Ray player before the weekend is out, but I think I'm going to pass on the PS3. Between the Wii, X-Box 360, DS, cell phone, and my PC I have enough gaming systems.
Lots of Blu-Ray players on sale at various stores for less than $200 tomorrow and I'm due at Best Buy at 9:30 a.m. to meet my folks who are TV shopping.
If I do get one, I'll probably grab a few DVDs, what is the story with the Casino Royale Blue-Ray? (Or was it just the DVD version?)
