Indy Spoiler Thread - Jones not Race, fool

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Anybody see it?

Before we went, my wife said it got a standing ovation at Cannes. I said, "Must have some anti-Bush stuff in it."

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, though; the whole "I don't recognize this country because of the hysteria" stuff COULD have just been about how simply AWFUL was HUAC's persecution of Hollywood. Regardless, it was simply ironic to have the movie complain that the government has got us seeing Reds everywhere, when the movie just spent the opening sequence showing us how the Reds were everywhere.

I didn't even think to take that out of context, it seemed like a historical statement to me instead of a modern commentary.

On the whole I thought it was crappy. The Indy movies have always had a touch of the supernatural, of course, but the actions of the humans involved have usually been reasonably believable. Surviving a nuclear blast in a lead-lined flying fridge and catching a speeding truck by swinging with your monkey friends are not what I would call believable.

This movie is like the last part of AI for the Indy series; "and suddenly there were aliens!"

Please tell me that shit doesn't happen. A flying fridge? You can't be serious.

Lucas's desired title. Yeah, if the flick had that name, that'd be a deal breaker. Maybe not 15 years ago when Sean, Harrison, John Rhys-Davies, & the dude that played Marcus were all around, but certainly now.

The original idea behind Indy was that it was derivitive of the Saturday serials, and that title would fit in fine with that. The thing is even though it's based on the Saturday serials it's always had a story of a better quality than that. Not this time, he finally took it right where he wanted to originally, I guess.

More evidence that Lucas has totally lost it in his old age.

Still trying to figure how in the hell he can go from Episodes IV-VI and Indy I-III, then churn out crap like Episodes I-III, and hold up Indy IV this damn long.

And the initial reports I'm hearing about it aren't encouraging. & yeah, I'm aware Star Wars had a nothing budget, mediocre acting, and all that. But despite that, I & many other millions enjoyed it.

The '90s just kicked Lucas's ass. Had to've. His IQ must've dropped or something.

All that having been said, if you liked the series it's worth watching someday. It'll annoy you, but it is still enjoyable if you are forewarned to expect your daily dose of stupid with it as well. It's not as bad as Star Wars Ep I was, you see, more on par with the annoyances of Ep II perhaps.
