Civilian unrest in over 30 cities in Mexico.

Oddly, no mention of this on CNN's front page at the moment.

I wonder if they ever could beat the cartels. There has to be a way, but they're so firmly entrenched + violent.

They would need a legit government willing to use the full force of their military against the cartels.

I think at this point, Mexico should be able to skip trials and just kill every known cartel member. How many civilians, cops, politicians, tourists, etc. have been murdered by cartels over the years?

I'd get on the phone with the U.S. and ask if they'd be kind enough to do airstrikes on cartel strongholds.

I wonder if the cartels could buy the military off, essentially. They've bought off everyone else.

I think they have, but there are always "Good Guys".

If the U.S. did some airstrikes, with Mexico's permission of course, I think it would quickly make bribes moot.

Mexican president says no to US military striking cartels.

One of the things Mexican citizens were saying about her, as they had their unrest this week, is that she's bought and paid for by the cartels. This doesn't do anything to dispel that belief.

Let's be realistic, a country that depends on its citizens illegally entering another country and sending back money probably doesn't have a strong enough of an economic position to fight cartels. Cartels that have so much power that they can openly murder anyone they want without fear of consequences.

It's far, far more likely that she is indeed "owned" than not.
