Famous climber dies...guess how.

I really don't understand this sport because every story ends the same way. Eventually, they all die. Especially the free climb folks.

I compare it to playing video games. No seriously. It's like doing a perfect run of any game. The slightest mistake and your run is ruined, right? Same with mountain climbing. The thing is, we're human and none of us fail to make mistakes. Tom Brady threw picks, Tiger Woods hit the ball into the water, Michael Jordan missed shots, Gretsky didn't score on 100% of the shots he took, and so on.

I get the adrenalin rush and the thrill of putting your life on the line, but I also have a brain and know that eventually you will make a mistake that costs you your life. So, why be dumb about it?

Man, this mistake, just... you should always knot your rappel rope, afaik. I'm not an expert climber though. Guess it wasn't explicitly a rappel rope since he was just going back to fix a stuck bag.

Yet...

Shouldn't there always be at least one exception to the rule?

I feel like rock climbing is pretty safe. Maybe that's relative to things like wingsuits and base jumping though :)

Man, wingsuit people have a death wish.
