Mickey 17 (2025)

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Ok I needed a minute to process. I presume the review parties went on anyway.

It's long, over 2 hours. One part I almost fell asleep. It's talky a lot of the time............. they certainly do take time to flesh out the characters and situation.

Bruce Banner plays Trump. The director didn't expect Trump to win the second time and in this show Trump is a 2-time loser. He's also super insane. And his supporters wear red caps.

Cedric Diggory does a good job playing both roles with different personalities.

I generally liked the odd characters. Their different weirdnesses felt realistic.

I feel like there's a really good movie here that would last 1 hour 50 minutes. 2 hours and 20 felt long.

Seriously, the move drained all my energy for the rest of the day.

This movie did not generally review well.

I found this to be extremely boring. Also, the story jumping around a bit wasn't well done. I had completely forgotten what was apparently a key moment despite thinking at the time how dumb it was when you give the tech even 1 second of thought.

I don't understand this mentality as Trump was ahead in every poll when this was being made. Even if he ended up losing, he still had won previously, so...what are you ripping?

Also, if Ruffalo was imitating Trump, it's more proof his talent is that he's a nepo baby. It was a pretty shitty imitation. I will give him credit for being completely unlikeable. Although, I think that might have been type casting... Seriously, the whole setup around him was kind of fun with the PR guy, his "Do you know who I am" wife (Serious question: Was she a shot at Hillary?), and so on. Although, I didn't really understand why this politician was spearheading this expedition in a world clearly run by corporations.

Overall, I thought this was poorly executed. Way too much time was spent on the mundane, and probably WAY too much time spent on pettiness instead of fleshing out this world. There were no stakes, and they could have had a lot more fun with the expendable gimmick than they did.

The director guy of the starship was an asshole in the book (I read it!). I'll watch the movie to see how it goes. The book is entertaining and interesting, but ultimately a bit unsatisfactory in the end.

Was he a politician? And yes, he's a complete asshole here.

I really do seem to remember something about the wife being a shot at Hillary.

I can't quite remember. I don't think so, but I cannot distinctly recall. I thought he was just in charge of the expedition, nothing more.
