Browns restructure Watson.

Posting for two reasons:
1. How can they have the most cap space now, but then already be projected at $44M over the cap next season?
2. Bill Simmons was doing the AFC over/unders on a pod and said he thinks this is the year the Watson trade shows itself as the worst in history. Cousin Sal countered with picking Cleveland to win the division. They both also picked the Steelers to go over their projected wins.

They both agree with us that the Panthers will stink. They also both agree with me that the Commanders seem to be on the right track. Simmons was closer to my win totals. Sal was a bit under.

The Bill Simmons podcast is the only one that does the Over/Under totals as stand alone pods, I think? Good listening. Ditto for the Sunday night episodes throughout football season when he and Sal do the lines for the upcoming week. I mention all this for Catt now that gambling is legal in NC.

Because cap space varies by year depending on how contracts are structured. Some are front-loaded, some are back-loaded, the cap hit can vary each year.

You basically need an economist/accountant to manage it, it's so complicated.

I try to limit my betting to positive expected value bets. Like all the free money they were giving out in March.

So for this year, after that restructure the Browns are way under the cap now. That cap number will roll over into next year. So i'm guessing whoever put that they are $44M over for next year didn't account for the money they have this year. Which i can understand because there's still extensions, trades deadline deals and stuff that still can happen yet this year. But whatever is left over will roll into next season's cap.

I think the biggest news about this deal is that it essentially ties Watson to the Browns next year no matter what. After Denver ate $75M or whatever it was of Russ Wilson's contract many Browns fans thought Cleveland could possibly do the same if this year was a dud for Watson.

Amen.

Ditto my friend. Although, I will typically put $1-5 each Sunday in their long shot areas just for giggles.

The article is ESPN, and to their credit, they don't typically get these things wrong. They were pretty clear that you're well under now, but (I assume) once the new year starts you'll be way over. They also list the big names that will be up for renewal in the offseason and how Cleveland will have to get creative.

So let me ask you this Stranger, IF Watson bombs this year, what do they do? Does a rookie look good? Anyway to trade Watson or is that completely off the board? Do they try to grab a Kirk Cousins type? Or do they blow it all up for picks and not waste the money?

In contrast, that's the call you nailed about the Steelers' situation. Wilson and Fields could bomb and we lose nothing. It's the silver lining in having nothing...

There is no way to trade or cut Watson. He's there no matter what for the next 3 years, even if he's riding pine.
Watson will have cap hits of $72.9 million each in the 2025 and 2026 seasons, with $172 million and $99 million dead cap hits, respectively.

Those are massive cap hits. They probably should have just waited to draft Stroud. :D

Everything i've heard from local Cleveland media is that this move was to alleviate cap space for next year, not really anything to do for this year. I do know that cap space does roll over from year to year.

I think this restructure guarantees that he's here next year for sure. If he blows, i'd guess they'd eat crow and dump him like Denver did with Wilson. Dorian Thompson-Robinson would likely be the cheap replacement, who's looked promising so far and by that time would be in year 4.

If I remember, the article does cover all that. Still, it's not going to be good when the bill finally does come due.

They should do to him what the Mets did for...I'm forgetting the name...He's collecting $1M until 2032 or something.

I went from two leagues last year to four this year. Well, 3 and a consultant for a cousin in another. I was on the phone with him for the entire draft and he plans to reach out weekly to set lineups.

In my work league, which somehow is where the big money prize is waiting, there have already been over half a dozen roster moves this morning alone. The draft was Sunday night. WTF?

My big sleeper this year was Joshua Palmer. WR1 for the Chargers, had a great year last year, no Keenan Allen to compete with, plays with a great QB, in warm weather, etc. He was still available in late rounds of every draft.

Give me your opinion on this team name:
Jackson this Chubb or Jackson this Dicker.

Funny? Not funny? Doesn't flow well?

Chubb should never be used in the same sentence as Jackson. I say this assuming it's Lamar

If anyone is interested in getting in a NFL survivor pick league, i'm trying to put one together. I was thinking $10 per entry and Website fee would be right around $1 depending on how many people sign up. 1 pick per week, you lose the game you're out. No repicking the same teams twice.

Here's the link to sign up: https://www.runyourpool.com/p/j/4e8ea10 ... 6da20b3b20

No need for money at this time, i wanna see how many people sign up before committing.

There is an APP for it too, RunYourPool

I've only won one of these ever, and there was no $ on the line, so... you'll do better than me.
