(Spoiler, we sorta had a thread like this in Movies, so no peeking)
In your opinion, what year was "Peak 80s"? Show your work; criteria are up to you. I'll save my opinion for after everybody has a chance to chime in.

Peak 80s
I'm sure I won't be able to pick a year. 1983-1986 had most of the most amazing, genre-defining, meme-worthy music and movies known to human history.
But I also got laid for the first time in 1987, so maybe 1987.

Peak 80s
Well, I never got laid in the 80s, so who cares.
I have to go with later 80s, since I'm younger than yall. Like 1987-1989. Ronnie was president, Berlin Wall fell, pop music had taken a turn for the worse, but the music I liked was still going.

It's not me, it's someone else.

Peak 80s
This topic came up at work recently and one guy had an answer immediately: 1984
I said in the movies thread I think I agree. Supporting arguments:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1984_in_film
Beverly Hills Cop, Ghostbusters, Temple of Doom, Gremlins, Karate Kid, Police Academy, Footloose
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1984_in_music
Purple Rain was obviously the top, but then there's the Footloose soundtrack, Van Halen, Born in the USA. Thriller was released the year before but was still number 1 until *MID APRIL*.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1984_in_A ... _this_year
Miami Vice debuted, as did Night Court and Cosby Show.
Sports:
84 Olympics, the Apple “1984” Super Bowl ad, Jordan drafted.
Oh yeah: Reagan crushed Mondale...morning in America again.

Peak 80s
I saw a video recently that claims that they ("they") wanted to get Huey Lewis to do the Ghostbusters theme. I think it's also true that they ("they") wanted to get Eddie Murphy to play Winston (he couldn't tho bc Beverly Hills Cop), and bc they thought he would do it, they didn't really write a lot of dialog for Winston bc Eddie would have just ad-libbed everything.
Both of those things would have been
