I was going to say something about "Figure out what to do as the head of the NFL or as a human being?" Because as the head of the NFL, you are probably a shitbag and are only going to care about money. As a human, you work with the Bills (and really any other team. A player's life as he knew it is likely over right now and that's gotta have an affect) to try to accommodate. Do they say "fuck it, it's just a game and we have bigger things going on" or do that say "Let's win this for him because that's what he'd want". Let the team decide, then try to accommodate. As the head of NFL "What option is cheaper?".

Leisher wrote: Tue Jan 03, 2023 3:05 pm The "keep things as is" answer is that all playoff teams are getting a bye week as you just shove everything back one week to accommodate a week where the only game is Bills vs Bengals. So the #1 seeds would get two weeks. However, the logistics on that have to be impossible. All those stadiums, other events booked, worker schedules, flight and hotel bookings, etc.
Yeah, I can't imagine what it would take to move the Super Bowl. Or do they already get 2 weeks before the Super Bowl, so now it'd just be one?
Leisher wrote: Tue Jan 03, 2023 3:05 pm A better answer would be to hold the final games this weekend, but move the Bengals and Bills games to Saturday. Then have the Bengals/Ravens and Bills/Patriots play on Wednesday or Thursday night, but only if necessary to determine something. If everything has already been set, then no game.
Would have to be Wednesday to get more time before the following Sundays' playoff games. (So you have to rearrange the first weekend of playoffs, too)
Leisher wrote: Tue Jan 03, 2023 3:05 pm The best answer is probably call the game a tie or no decision. The NFL can dig into its very deep pockets and provide the Bengals with compensation for the lost home game. Meanwhile, division and playoff standings will just have to swing on the situation. Some will complain, but I think it'll be only a vocal minority of idiots/trolls who don't understand how impossible a task it is to reschedule this late.
It's a tough situation. Also, I wonder how many fantasy leagues won't be decided now? :) Or maybe they'll get decided next week? Who knows! (I was in the championship game, and both myself + my opponent had people in the game last night, with what looked to be a close finish).

I remember hearing about someone getting hit with a... nerf football? or something years ago and that happened.
Lots of speculation that this is indeed what happened, but just speculation at the moment.

Saw a video of an NHL player who had this happened to him in 1998. He recovered and was playing again in a few weeks.

Don't bet on the Texans or Bears games this weekend.

Both teams have incentive to lose.

Interestingly, the Texans' opponents, the Colts, also have incentive to lose.

If the Texans hold onto the #1 draft pick, they get their choice at QB.

If the Bears sneak into that spot, they get to accept all trade offers, which could get quite large. For a team with over $110M in salary cap space and already a bunch of draft picks...they could become a contender overnight.

Meanwhile, the Colts can improve their draft stock with a loss and they're a team in need of a QB. There are 3 good ones apparently, so moving up in a draft where QBs are expected to slide a bit is important.

In other news, I hear Hamlin's charity toy drive that had a goal of $2500 is over $6M today. That's fantastic.

10 years from now, he just runs the charity. Some interviewer asks how he got started on that path...

The league’s chief medical officer named a condition called commotio cordis as a possible cause.

The NFL has wiggle room in its playoff calendar with the extra week between the conference championship games and the Super Bowl.
ok, it is 2 weeks.

The first and most likely option is to declare the game a tie or a no contest. The second would send a ripple effect for the entire postseason slate.

“Another option—seemingly a maybe more unlikely option, but an option nonetheless—is to move back the playoffs, play this game in Week 19, eliminate the bye between the championship games and the Super Bowl, and move on from there,” Rapoport said. “Those are the kinds of things the league is discussing. I would expect some sort of announcement at some point soon.”

I know that's "not fair", but it is hilarious.

I heard Brady gave a pretty big amount himself. Nice to see that PPP money not go to waste!

The Bills released an update on Hamlin's status from his doctors Thursday morning, noting that he remains critically ill but appears to be neurologically intact.

"Per the physicians caring for Damar Hamlin at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Damar has shown remarkable improvement over the past 24 hours," the team said. "While still critically ill, he has demonstrated that he appears to be neurologically intact. His lungs continue to heal and he is making steady progress. We are grateful for the love and support we have received."
Well, that's some very good news.

Extremely good news.

I genuinely look forward to his first press conference once he's out of the hospital.

Only a few teams are in the top donors list. Tom Brady gave $10k. Browns gave $10003. Wink Martindale gave $2500.

Bengals-Bills game has been canceled.
To address the inequity the decision imposes, the NFL also paved the way to tweak its format by possibly playing the AFC Championship game at a neutral site if it involves the two teams.

Commissioner Roger Goodell recommended a proposal, which was approved by the NFL’s competition, which says that the game will be played at a neutral site if the participating teams played an uneven number of games—and both teams could have been the No. 1 seed and therefore hosted the game had the full 17-game regular season been played.
If the Bills and Chiefs both win this weekend, then, the game would be at a neutral site. The decision still has to be approved by NFL owners on Friday.

Additionally, if the Baltimore Ravens defeat the Bengals this weekend, and they’re scheduled to play in the wild-card round, the site for that game would be determined by a coin toss.

ESPN still has the points from that game in fantasy scores until the NFL rules what to do about official stats, this is beyond the canceling of the game.

I'd say if your score isn't inflated by those points, then you are golden.

I plan to congratulate the winner of our league, but I will be adding a *.

I was winning before the game started, and still winning with what had happened. I think I was winning based on expected points as well.
Damar Hamlin is breathing on his own and talking, marking the second consecutive day of positive milestones in the Buffalo Bills safety's recovery. He FaceTimed into a team meeting to talk to players and coaches. “Love you boys,” he told them, according to the team.
