Since there was a mouse review, here's a keyboard review.

It lights up. Neat! It has 18 macro keys that can hold 3 macros each. It has a neat LCD screen on it that is supported by as many as two games. And that's cool!!

I like it though. I do use the macro keys. Not all 18 (x3) though. In Eve, I can activate all my weapons with one key instead of 3 or 6 (depending on what I'm flying). You can setup 'buy' macros in Counter Strike to buy your gun of choice. The LCD can show your CPU/MEM use. I like that. If I'm getting crappy frame rates, I can see which one is pegged. The longer I have the keyboard, the more I like it. I discover more uses for it.

It also has two USB ports on it which are handy. It also has a switch that moves between a picture of a monitor and a picture of a joystick. Have no idea what it does though.

Oh, it also has music controls under the LCD screen (FW, RW, Play, etc) as well as volume control. There are 4 other buttons there, but again, don't know what they do.

So, this keyboard is so cool, it has all kinds of things to figure out.

I like it.

You say "it lights up." Are they keys merely backlit, or can you actually see what the key is in pitch darkness because the letter is illuminated?

I often game in the dark and I hate it when I have to strain my eyes going from screen to keyboard to find a rarely-used key.

Each letter is lit up so you can see what it is. Every single one of them. Not just the important ones or anything. In fact, not a whole lot of light coming from 'under' the keys. It all shines through the key labels.

This thread has been commandeered to fulfill the needs of Operation: Peripheral Upgrade.

I like this keyboard. It is pretty.

But complex.

How do I, in the LCD display, adjust what displays? I don't need the timer/stopwatch to scroll, by default. The clock, CPU/Memory meter, and Winamp "currently Playing is useful enough. And can I make it stop scrolling?

Also I wish I had all these macro keys during my hardcore UO days. My god... I might not have sucked at pvp so much.

When I click the "Mouse and keyboard settings" in the system tray, I only get mouse settings.

I like that, on the LCD, the "Performance Monitor" is able to display the performance of all 4 of my CPU cores.

Warning:

There is a problem with this keyboard, at least my particular one.

95% of the time I boot my PC, the keyboard isn't recognized and I need to unplug/replug the USB. The lights on the keys come on and everything, but they don't work until I unplug/replug. Googling this issue turns up one or two other people mentioning this problem, but the only suggestions are "Check the bios to make sure USB peripherals are recognized," and when that didn't help, "Must be a flaky circuit board."

I only bring this up just now because I have unplugged/replugged that USB plug so often, I finally wore the plug out and I needed to cut it off and splice a new plug on it.

Since hardly anyone else has had this problem, though, you should still be safe buying this brand and model. The G15, I've noticed in my research, is pretty much considered the best gaming keyboard one can buy.

The only problem I have had with mine is the backlight for the number pad sometimes flickers. First time I saw it, I was worried that my keyboard was failing. But, it continued to work, and eventually went away. It's done it a couple of other times since the first. It doesn't do it long though.

So, a VERY minor distraction, but no big deal, to me.

I'm looking forward to using all the 'Gx' keys for UO macros. I've always used the F keys at the top, but alway run out. Then it hit me. Duh. You have 18 keys all nicely spaced on the left over there. Going to be remapping all my spells and targeting hot keys to the G keys.

Beware: Those G keys are not different keys. You still need to map them as existing keys. Lots of people on support forums bitch about this. HOPEFULLY, though, this means you can map G1 as Ctrl-F1. Something like that. Also, as you know, it does macros. So we'll see. I already have some ideas what I am going to do with mine... for my dexer going to try to make one of the block of 6 keys all that I need. One to disarm. One to drink cures/heals. One each to rearm whatever weapon I want. This way I don't need to look away from the screen to do these things.

Ya, I knew that. Was going to map to obscure things like ctrl+shift+3 or something.

I was going to do the same thing. But I'm going to use the M1 set for my mage and M2 for my dexer so I don't waste mage keys for arm/disarm and the dexer isn't filled up with spell keys.
