Are there any hard-core Linux junkies here? I'm considering doing something that I don't think has been done before, and I might end up needing to ask some questions. Specifically I'm considering building my own hand-held homebrew wifi phone (SIP) most probably based on parts from GumStix (unless there's a better option I don't know about). Although I'm not going to even start ordering parts until I can figure out the power problem (if I can't work out how to get at least 36 hours of standby, there's no point in building it).
Anyway I probably won't do it (I really never get around to actually doing these sorts of projects), but nonetheless I'm checking on what resources might be available for information.

If by wifi phone you mean VoIP, check out Asterisk. I know a lot of companies use it and have good success with it. I'm considering using it for my home office for voicemail and faxing. Like you I have a hard time getting around to these projects.
This was in interesting article.
Hope that helps

Wadda mean? Other people can read this?!
Yup, I'm using Asterisk interfaced with Skype (see ChanSkype if interested) on a Linux box to provide my home-grown SIP-VOIP service. I've been shopping for SIP mobiles and they all suck and are overpriced, which is what lead to the idea.
I'm still working on the power problem, though, and it's not looking good. I'm up to 8 hours potential standy time. Still not enough yet. *sigh*

Well, after spending three days failing to get this damn USB 2 RJ11 adapter to work in Linux (with four different distros, even), I've given up and changed over to a Win2K box to run Skype. This miserable failure tells me I probably shouldn't try anything as ambitious as this topic discusses.
