Got a copy of Vista Ultimate today (work paid for it).

Interesting to note, prices were down on most Vista products. Vista Business was down to $199 and Vista Ultimate is down to $249.

I'll be setting up my dual boot system this weekend and installing my 8800GTX video card.

Giggity.

I'm not sure how I feel about the new Windows Explorer yet.

I love the compactness of the menuing and navigating.

I hate the compactness of the menuing and navigating.

Dell brings back XP
Starting immediately, Dell said, it is adding XP Home and Professional as options on four Inspiron laptop models and two Dimension desktops.

Holy crap. This would be Microsoft's Playstation 3.......... if they still weren't almost guaranteed to win with Vista by slowly infiltrating the user base of the average consumers who buy their computers at Radio Shack and Best Buy and just don't know any better.

XP will lose by attrition.

I'm surprised Dell can do that. I'd have figured they had some sort of deal with Microsoft for cheap Vista that wouldn't allow for backsliding to XP. Interesting.

A quote from Catt's linked article:
Microsoft product manager Michael Burk said in a statement: "Dell is responding appropriately to a small minority of customers that had this specific request. But, as they have said before, the vast majority of consumers want the latest and greatest technology, and that includes Windows Vista."
Uhm...no. 95 and XP flew off shelves when they were released. The story might have been similar for 98? I know Server 2003 is getting great reviews.

But when a product is a complete mess and the developer totally lost focus from the consumer's perspective, don't sit there and tell us that we can't wait to buy your piece of shit. IT departments across the country are avoiding Vista and telling their employees to avoid Vista. The media is bashing Vista.

At what point do you think people aren't hearing the message?

PC sales must just be down because of Bush/global warming.

So if Vista is causing a drop in PC sales, is that's what's killing AMD? Or is Intel gaining market share?

Price war with Intel combined with far inferior chips, especially in the growth market of laptops.

Hilarious.... their little "which is better?" graph doesn't let us know which one runs apps faster. And what is the purpose of an OS, again? Oh yeah, an interface for running apps.

And Vista is better because it has a weather "widget?" Last time the weather showed up on my PC it was because spyware installed itself on my system. Microsoft is now immitating that which they allowed and could not stop.

I think Microsoft is forcing Dell to hype Vista in exchange for allowing them to continue selling XP.

I think it's win-win for Dell.

N00bs get the OS MS wants them to get from Dell.
Real users get the OS they want from Dell.
