I don't think I'm completely in the "it's just the flu, bro" camp, but:
https://www.cnn.com/2018/09/26/health/f ... index.html
An estimated 80,000 Americans died of flu and its complications last winter [2017-2018], according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
80k deaths...and I honestly don't even remember it. I have a note in my journal that I had a low-grade fever the middle of March 2018, which I chalked up to a recent airplane flight. Do any of you guys remember anything like this? The freaking 1918 "Spanish" Flu came back in 2009, and while I *do* recall that, it was more because it was the return of the Spanish Flu:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_swin ... ted_States
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that from April 12, 2009 to April 10, 2010, there were 60.8 million cases, 274,000 hospitalizations, and 12,469 deaths (range: 8,868–18,306) in the United States due to the virus.
I just don't know. A lot of people smarter than me are concerned that we're not being locked down tighter. On the other hand...I guess we can be thankful it's not worse.

I think this is fair, but it also means our worst flu year on record is the best possible outcome of this with every urban center in a draconian lock-down for a month so far. If we didn't take these actions it could have been bodies-in-the-street bad in high population density areas.

The way the deaths lag infection by ~3 weeks means that things might still get pretty bad in certain parts of the country.

I just heard MGM casinos, resorts, and attractions in Vegas are now closed through May 31st.

That's not a good sign...

The rumor is that Wayne County (Detroit) hospitals are overflowing their COVID patients down here to the hospital 6 miles from my house, because Ohio is better and has more beds and equipment.

Rumor is also to not go to the Meijer right next to that hospital, because all the health care workers leave the plague wing and immediately go grocery shopping there.

We should also probably cut off our heads and put them in jars, and that way we don't need to worry about sexism any more, either.

I fixed your image.

Also, that's very sad about your friend's mom. Condolences.

Fauci says states can start coming out of lockdown by summer.

Here's a doctor who believes we shouldn't be locked down.

I don't think his logic is unsound. I just wonder why the rest of the medical world disagrees? I certainly don't believe the argument that the internet caused this reaction. That's fucking stupid.

I know it's all about flattening the curve... I'm just not convinced anything was changed, much. Too many people, entire states, still not giving a shit. The borders are porous. Still breaking daily death records. Ohio had the quickest lockdowns, and we're still in the middle of the pack for deaths/infections per million population.

That's the approach Britain tried, and quickly realized it wasn't working.

The vast majority of people are giving a shit, and staying home. So much has changed.

Yes, I know that many people have changed their social interaction practices, and that has changed. But many also haven't, and are still spreading it, supposedly. The curve isn't flattening, that I'm looking at, weeks later. (Source) I'm not convinced THE COURSE OF THE DISEASE INFECTION has changed much.

Really don't want to start another argument. If you have data that shows anything is slowing down the natural progression, just post it and win.

Just look at your own source and click "log"... there you have it. Flattening. The exponential growth is gone.

For Gordon...

The spread of COVID-19 is based on two factors

How dense the population is

I argue things are better than they seem, I get criticized. I argue things are worse than they seem, I get criticized.

This would never happen if I were a black woman.
