Yeah, this is a bad plan. Don't put any more people on cruise ship without serious addressing their air filtering systems...

Dr. Fauci said they assumed not, but said that nobody knows yet. Could be a yearly thing, like certain flu strains.

I care not for stats from around the world. Most countries aren't comparable to US facilities. When I see hospitals around the USA overflowing with patients, not just in climate controlled overflow tents, but actually dying on the curb, then I will admit to being wrong.

Remdesivir seems to be working, but it's early, data is still limited. Sure hope they can make gallons of that stuff quickly.

Government has failed to provide enough tests, so who knows what's going on
Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak said they still don’t know the full extent of the danger the state is facing from coronavirus because they still don’t have enough testing kits.

“The Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health received a notice yesterday that all of Nevada’s requests to the federal government [for test kits] are on an indefinite backlog without any estimate of a timeline for delivery,” he said at a news conference Friday.
Sisolak said the state has made “countless calls” to ask and “even beg” for more testing materials, but the government has no guidance for when the backlog will be cleared.

In the meantime, Sisolak is responding with a new emergency order taking previous guidance for non-essential businesses to close, and now making it mandatory.

Trump still doesn't think a national lockdown is needed despite his own expert saying NY and CA are doing the right thing, literally, a few minutes before Trump spoke.

Why are we still waiting on The Government to produce these tests? WTF. In WWII we had jukebox manufacturers making guns. Ford Motor Co could crank out a GODDAMN HEAVY BOMBER in less than an houir. I bet there's a dozen labs in RTP alone that could produce these tests.

SRSLY WTF

That's what I'm saying: why aren't companies making them? Is it regulations? Patent/copyright?

Lack of reagents I think. The specific part that is needed appears to be the kits that extract RNA from the virus sample. My old biotech company makes them. The "Walmart" like company out there that makes them is Qiagen. A lot of the chemicals were made in China, or made with help from China, even at our Georgia lab, 10 years ago. The owner was Chinese.

There are some domestic companies that do it too - Promega. My old company was called "Omega Bio-tek". Their twitter says they are cranking extraction kits out, especially those that are used in high-throughput ThermoFisher instruments. You could probably cannibalize all the other kits they make to make more. They are doing that, I believe.

Here is the protocol and product manual: https://ensur.omegabio.com/ensur/conten ... 67.4713676

I feel like we had longer to prepare for ww2 before hitting your milestones.

Remember when Musk rushed to build an impractical sub for the soccer team rescue that no one wanted? But he's slow-playing this?
