Hello Carolinas!

Post by GORDON »

I lived in the Carolinas and Tennessee for a decade, but I never got into the regional junk food. Tried Cheerwine a couple times... meh. They also have Sundrop down there.

But I do still love barbecue, which is only ever made of pigs.

I love BBQ, but oddly, in the dozens of times I've been here I've only had BBQ once.

And it wasn't awesome. It was a joint some locals loved. A hole in the wall place in an old strip mall.

To test your gateway theory, what would I have moved on to?
Moon pies.
Best I could come up with was insulin. Neither of which I use. So. NOT a gateway.

Well, you really need to drive up the road to Lexington to get the good stuff.

Sometimes those can be the best... but typically it's places that have their own building, and have been there for decades.

When he was 6 or 7, took my kid to Memphis and to my fave BBQ place.

Pull up out front, he says, "We're having dinner in a shack?"

To be fair, that's like half of Memphis.

Because there's like 6 places you can go for the best BBQ in the world. It's a paradox.

The place I mentioned though was like a hundred years old and had burned once, and they did the bare minimum to fix it.

Looks like I'm bringing good weather this week.

You're in the wrong Carolina.

Also, I haven't arrived yet.

That has never been true. I mean, ask anyone.

Although, I will say one of, if not, the nicest rest areas I've ever been to was in SC near Charlotte. Down I85

I asked the political left and they said you are a bigot.

Nope, because South Carolina is more conservative than North, ergo, they are not humans.

Actually I consider North Carolina better because they have Duke...

Now, you're just being an asshole. Or a yankee.

Same thing, really.

Ha!

They really changed the airport up since I was here last. Looks nice and clean. Still love the rocking chairs.

BTW, my trip sucked.

Got really sick this morning. Ended up missing my flight as I arrived 25 minutes before departure, not 30. The huge line of zero people at security would have proven daunting apparently. It really boiled down to them not wanting to walk my checked bag back. Had to drive to Detroit to catch a flight. It was delayed 90 minutes. Got to my hotel at 10. Not a good way to start the week.

Then National gave me a Mustang Convertible for the week, so I might be ok.
