My early research says that used Nissans are still covered under a 10/100k factory warranty.

Do you have a 240 for charging, or just normal power?

It charges very slowly on normal power. I rented a Tesla for a weekend, and it charged about 2-3mph plugged into normal power.

You have normal power, unless you had an electric stove or old electric dryer in your garage.

Verify that warranty on any one you are considering. Just read an article about a couple who had to pay $5500 for new batteries for their 2011 because they were getting 39 miles on a full charge.

I was reading some consumer report feedback on that. Nissan isn't very good at honoring that. They have an LED charge bar readout, and if it falls below 8 (out of 10) bars then the batteries should be replaced. Guy went in to have it taken care of. They called him to pick it up and said it was actually in need of a firmware update, and suddenly the display was showing 9 bars. Battery life was still below 80%, but they fixed the bar readout for him.

Here's the economics of it, you chucklefucks:

The commute is 17.5 miles one way, 35 miles round trip, twice a day, 75% city driving.

In my F-150, I'm filling up every 5 days. Depending on the price of gas, $60-$90 per fill-up. $200-300 per month.

F-150 is paid off. No monthly payment. The daily commute puts a shotload of miles on the truck.

If I can get a used electric car for less than $250 per month, then that's pure profit.... in that I'm not paying for gas, and saving the miles on the truck.

Yeah, and if I can get a used Kia for less than $200 per month, and $50 per month in gas, comparable. Fuck you. I know.

I already said I had to research the warranty policy, and how long a battery pack is going to last. If it wears down to 100 miles per charge, it's still fine for why I need it.

Been drinking. Fuck you.

You can get two seater scooters. And just have him wear a mirrored helmet visor.

And your math above only holds out if the car lasts for 5 years (or the length of the loan) and you get free electricity.

You really should just give up and buy what everyone else is telling you to buy. We are just trying to help you and save you from yourself. Reread Leisher's Escort post. $250/month payment, low gas costs. After 5 years, no more payment, car still runs, low gas cost. More profit for the next 5 years. Leaf, $50/month profit (with free electric), but a dead car at 5 years(or sooner). Start over. 10 years, my math shows a $3k difference in cost of ownership with the Escort.

But. . . go ahead and do what you want. You're going to anyways. . .

I don't care what you do. Just telling you what I'd seen concerning the leaf.

And you're a mean drunk.

Musk thinks completely autonomous cars will be in reach this year
!RmindMe 12/31/2019 - L3
!RmindMe 12/31/2020 - L4
I'm skeptical, although in details, sounds like he's promising less.
“I think we will be feature complete — full self-driving — this year,” Musk said. “Meaning the car will be able to find you in a parking lot, pick you up and take you all the way to your destination without an intervention, this year. I would say I am certain of that. That is not a question mark.”
...
He goes on to explain that this advanced autopilot feature won’t mean Teslas will be able to maneuver themselves through any situation. From how Musk describes it, the upgrade sounds like a “Level 3” autonomous driving. That’s defined as “conditional automation” by the Society of Automotive Engineers, which can dynamically drive itself but requires that the driver step in if something goes wrong.

Musk said that a truly self-driving Tesla, that doesn’t require any intervention will be here by 2020.

Remind me as well. I'll believe it when I see it.

I bet he's not far off. I know the automobile manufacturers are looking ahead to not building cars but rather fleets of pods that will sold to Uber like companies.

They've been testing these on the roads, hundreds of thousands of.miles, for years. I'm guessing what's holding it up is government.
