Zuckerberg apologizes for FB's role in dividing people.

He doesn't give any details, but I assume more censorship is coming.

i.e., anything 'conservative' is racist/sexist/hate speech, and is therefore banned.

FB wants to fight revenge porn with porn.

I get the purpose, but asking someone to put their porn on your servers is ballsy, and I wonder how many would trust it. Hell, how many will understand why?

FB might be temp banning women for sexist statements about men.

I say might because that's the Daily Beast.

Uproxx confirms.

Who knew FB was so progressive that they made straight white men a protected group?

I feel like Zuckerberg isn't entirely a villain, here.

Plenty of people have known for a long time that living your life on facebook shares your life details with whomever wants to see them, and most of those people assumed they were farming more info than you thought, permission granted and buried in the Terms of Service.

I don't really blame him or FB either, but it's fun to watch. It'll be more fun when people realize that EVERYONE is stealing their personal data. So far I've only seen a single article that pointed that fact out.

I've always assumed that when I started using these "free" services, anything I did on them was being recorded for sale. That's why I give them as little info as possible. Facebook has been asking for my phone number for years, for example.

So yeah, funny to see everyone else five years behind the curve.

I'm not entirely on top of the 'meddling' thing, but what I'm hearing is:

Russia posted fake stuff on facebook. Everyone on facebook believed it. Trump won and Brexit.

Why isn't anyone holding people responsible for being idiots who believe everything they read on facebook? Why doesn't Mark just say "Facebook is about keeping in touch with friends. We haven't come up with an algorithm that protects idiots from stupid."

Because they want those people to vote for them. Calling them stupid won't get that vote. Giving them a target to blame for their "mistake" will.
