Close Encounters of the Third Kind 2

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Nope... it's a theater run for the 40th anniversary.

I may go see it.

Summed up in a single sentence: one man's interstellar journey to get the fuck away from his annoying family.

I think I'm going on Saturday. Getting pushback from the kid who wants to see It, but fuck that. I want to see this one in the theater.

Great film. I'm curious to see how today's audiences react to it.

In spite of being a 40 year old flick, I think it holds up. The practical effects here and there are a little wonky, but that's rare. Usually they are stellar... but as my son said, sometimes you couldn't get a sense of the scale of the spaceships at the end. I would agree with that. I really liked the use of lens flare, and when the little ships are communicating with the flashy lights, the lens flare was different depending on which color flashed. That's cool and I wonder how he did that in 1975.

Also something I noticed for the first time.... the final gist of the movie is using lights and colors and musical notes because there is a language barrier between the humans and the aliens. Well, from the first line of the movie, there was a language barrier between the french guy and everyone else, and he needed the translator. Just something I'd never thought of, before.

Also all the scientists and engineers and alien chasers are 100% white guys. Spielberg is racist.
