Who only wants to go to a contender?

You know they're going to have to release him and he'll end up in Houston or some other outside contender that misses out on Romo.

I vote "no."
Mike Zimmer identified the crux of the Minnesota Vikings offensive problem in 2016: No running game.

"We've got to run the football better than we did. I think that was part of the problem we had way too many negative-yardage runs," Zimmer said of his offensive in 2016, in an interview with the team's official website. "We have to run the football better this year."
It'd also be nice to have an offensive line, a QB, a couple more WRs, those draft picks back instead of Gimpy Bradford, I could go on.

A very "Duke Nukem Forever" schedule.
Zimmer added that the nature of Bridgewater's injury adds to the uncertainty about when, or if ever, the QB could return.

"With this injury that he has, it's different with everyone," Zimmer said at the time. "They went back and, whoever has had this injury, they've studied it and the ones [who] have come back and how long it's taken to come back, how long it hasn't come back. But they're all different, there's no exact injury where they're all the same."

The Vikings won't put a timeline on Bridgewater's rehab, but it sounds more and more like a return won't happen in 2017, if ever.
Anyhow, since the QB situation is thoroughly fucked, it feels appropriate to bring up this gem.
But on the micro level, they do have to be concerned with the first-year performance -- or lack thereof -- from 2016 first-round pick Laquon Treadwell. The wide receiver was believed to be one of the best in his class, but saw the field in just nine games. He was targeted three times and caught one pass.
Percy Harvin. Sidney Rice. Cordarelle Patterson. I could go on but the point is made. Your WRs will suck until you find someone decent to throw the goddamn ball.

I've already heard rumours of Cutler going to Cleveland.

Matt Elam has a side biz.
A search revealed a Gucci book bag on the floor of the driver's side that included 126.2 grams of marijuana, six oxycodone pills weighing 3.1 grams, $947, a Rolex, a men's necklace with white stones and a men's bracelet with white stones.
That's a lot of bud.

Brown gets paid.

Can't say I'm a massive fan of the contract. I love Brown and don't want him to go anywhere, but this is very unusual for the Steelers.

I think in 4 years this franchise is going to be a dumpster fire.

Vikes do not pick up AP's option. I hope they have a fantastic backup plan not named McKinnon or Asiata.

Steelers tagged Bell.

We'll suffer the same fate as last year.

I'm wondering at this point if Tomlin will quit when Ben quits. He'll have to know that the team is going to spiral into the cellar when that happens tarnishing his legacy. If he quits when Ben does, he can move to TV and be considered a great coach forever, ala Gruden.

Jamaal's been cut loose.

Birdkiller Stadium still going strong.
A trio of organizations -- the Audubon Chapter of Minneapolis, the Minnesota Citizens for the Protection of Migratory Birds and the Friends of Roberts Bird Sanctuary -- worked together to prepare a report (which you can view in full here) that details the concerns about the stadium’s effect on birds flying into the stadium.

The results are not pretty: according to City Pages, over a two-hour span, the three groups found 60 dead birds lying on the ground and another 14 birds lying stunned on the ground.

The belief is that the stadium is killing up to 500 birds a year.

Pats want to keep Garapollo.

So they say...

This is either a ploy to drive the price up or the Patriots think the end for Brady is closer than the "5 more years" he thinks.

At least RG3 had one solid year.

Anyhow, news from the bottom:
Brown was pressed on a later comment in which he said the Browns could very well enter 2017 with the same three quarterbacks.

"That could be the reality we're faced with so it's something you have to prepare for," Brown said. "Doesn't mean that's our target but we'll leave it at that. We do like having Cody and the work they've put in. Robert obviously had a tough year with the durability and the injury early. But the reality is that those guys are on our roster and we'll continue to develop and work with them. Doesn't necessarily mean that's our aiming point."

Brown said that all three options have quite a ways to go in order to establish themselves as a top-tier NFL starter but that it doesn't mean the team should simply give up on them.
That's the Cleveland exec VP saying they're going into this new season with the same three reject ball-chuckers presently on the roster. If that's the case, the Browns could be the most run-heavy team in the NFL.

And finally, from the "where are they now" files...

Josh Gordon wants back in.
The Browns wideout is applying for NFL reinstatement from suspension on Wednesday, Gordon's business manager, Michael Johnson, told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Gordon hasn't appeared in a regular-season game since 2014. The 25-year-old pass-catcher voluntarily entered an in-patient rehabilitation facility last October to "gain full control of my life."
Boyziel rehires agent.
Johnny Manziel has re-hired agent Erik Burkhardt to help him craft a comeback, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported Wednesday morning.
