I bumped up some weights this morning... more on the curl bar, another 20 (up to 360, now... two more plates, and I am squatting the entire stack) on the leg presses... and goddam I feel rekt. Knees hurt. Wrist hurts. My jackin wrist, so you know it's serious.

I do shoulder lifts (extensions?) with 25 pounders at present, looks like Khal Drogo is doing 35 or 40s.

The day I posted this, I did 3 sets on the squat sled of 220.

Yesterday I did 3 sets of 320.

The last post up there was late March. Yesterday, 3x12x360. Two more plates to go until I am doing the entire stack. Then I up the reps.

Interestingly... I wear these tight jammer shorts when I swim laps... tight like a speedo, but they go to mid-thigh so I don't look like a grape smuggler. They are beginning to get loose in the waist, but too tight around my thighs. Sweet. Swole problems.

My swimming sucks but at least I am still making squat gains.... yesterday I did a set of the entire stack on the squat sled, 400 pounds, 10 reps. I could probably have done 3 sets but I am always trying to not hurt myself, so did 380/400/380. Doesn't seem like a big difference, but my thighs feel it. I have a buddy who told me about 6 months ago, "When I used to go there I was able to squat the entire stack!" So yesterday after I finally did it I texted him that I did 10 reps, and that he can suck it. He responded, "Only 10?" and the next response was how impressed his mom was, and it devolved from there.

But you know, it's the small goals that keep you motivated.

Funny aside, also yesterday some new guy shows up, pretty lumpy looking, skinny here and there, but big gut and fat pecs, if you know what I mean. And he has on this big leather weight belt and I am snickering to myself he must have gotten it at a garage sale because it looks well used. But I am on the decline sit-up bench right next to him doing some sets and he racks up 8 big plates on the squat rack.... about 405 pounds... the bar is bending... and he does 3 reps. Reminded me that I need to shut the fuck up mentally and not assume shit about people. Strong-fat like a mother fucker.

When I am done with pecs and tris and curls I get that vein now that runs down the front of your bicep. That's awesome. I'm just so vascular.

Nice. i'm hoping I still have something that resembles a bicep in 6 months.

Right now I'm literally allowed to lift 1 pound.

Seriously, congrats on the progress! I understand... I was diagnosed with arthritis 18 years ago. It felt like being told I had cancer. And 4 years ago, a trip to Walmart was all the walking my knee could handle. I'd have to lay down the rest of the day. Last week when I was in Vegas, I walked 14 miles in just one day. And I can bike 2-3 hours without knee issues.

But it's weird watching my bicep waste away. If all goes to plan, I can lift again in 6 months or so.

Can you do that electricity thing that flexes your muscle for you? No idea if those work, or not. I've just seen them.

No. Cannot load the bicep at all for 3-4 months, then can progress to those stretchy PT bands for light loads. Can get back to normal in 5-8 months from now.

The kid has been on xmas break for a week now, and as such my diet has been more normal than usual.... I am not pigging out, but instead of eating few calories and cutting weight I am eating like a normal person, which usually means having lunch with him.

But I have still been hitting the gym every morning, and I have been noticing something..... when not actively cutting weight, I am getting more muscle mass, and I actually met a strength goal that has been eluding me for a couple months. I finally finished that heavy set of bench presses that I have been failing to finish.

So let me check the math on that...

As for that Bench goal, I have been trying to do this:

I have been failing at 225. I was able to push 4 of them, but as I never have a spotter, it scared the shit out of me and I didn't want to push to failure. But Friday I felt strong, and pushed that shit out, so to speak. I was also able to push out all the reps on the other side of the pyramid, too. Now I wonder if I should bump up all the weights up by 20 again like I intended, or see if I can repeat that set a few times. Scary. I need a butler who doubles as a spotter.

Did it again today, but didn't realize I was having a low-energy day and damned near got stuck on the 6th rep of 225. I got as stuck as you can get without failing. Even got the bar stuck under the peg. Took me 5 or 6 seconds to finish the rep. I just kept thinking of Arnold, and pushing harder. Scary shit.

Think I'm going to bump it up 10 pounds on Friday.
