I remember when I found out the middle school computer I was supposed to be doing typing lessons on had the original installed on it. No idea how that happened, but it made my typing class the bomb.

What do you consider the "original"? The 3d one or the top down one.

Hint: The top down version is the true original.

Wolfenstein 3D is widely hailed as one of the grandaddy shooters. But I remember scenes like this fondly.

More info.
The New Order takes place after the Nazis win World War 2, and our hero, William Joseph “B.J.” Blazkowicz, is awakened from a 14 year coma. The Nazis are in control, but there is some question about the technology they use to stay in power. This mystery makes up the brunt of the game as you join the resistance and try to take the whole mess down.

This is a game being made by developers who came from Starbreeze, the company that gave us the criminally underrated Chronicles of Riddick and The Darkness games.

Reviews from an incorrect article.
The original Wolfenstein debuted in 1981, kicking off the first-person shooter genre.

No. The screenshot from above is what the '81 version looked like. It is many things, but not first person.

The people who gave this a shitty review can eat a bag of dicks, and apparently reviews were mixed. This game is really, really good imho.

The biggest negatives I'll give the game are:
1. BJ's facial shots are a bit odd. He mostly seems sad rather than pissed off.
2. Levels are really linear, but there are different ways to play them based on your play style.
3. The story has a couple of weak moments, but to me they weren't deal killers. Also, I'm not sure what the deal is with Ramona...
4. The AI could be better. It was fine, but not great.
5. There's a odd design choice at the end where you won't have your weapons, and then you do a second later with no explanation.

The story has you as BJ (I'm not trying to spell his last name) in a world where the Nazis won. How'd they win? Remember how the Nazis were crazy into science and the occult? Well, let's just say they were more successful here with the science. (That's all I'll say to avoid spoilers.) I found the story to be really interesting. Yes, there's two moments where I thought to myself, "Well, that's convenient.", but who cares? It was entertaining and engrossing. I cared about killing Nazis and I enjoyed my allies.

I do want to note that there are some mature themes at play, so let your kid play at your own risk. There are two scenes that feature sex.

That being said, the way the story is told is really cool. Whenever something in the plot moves forward you get cut scenes. Some long, some short, but all entertaining. They establish characters without really digging too deep. They make your choices impact you without really changing the game. (Hint: There is a choice to be made and it won't completely change the game except some dialogue and skills you get. I've heard that one choice also gets you Jimi Hendricks as an ally. No idea if that's true or not as I went the other way.

The fighting and weapons are pretty solid. There are moments when you'll feel invincible, and moments when you feel fucked. (Note: I played on Normal difficulty and died a lot. Some of them were my fault for trying to kill enemies in certain ways for perks, but I died a lot because the enemies overwhelmed me.) The weapons have a good feel to them. There's not a single one I didn't like. Enemies are all Nazis and they come in enough flavors to keep you interested. Ditto for the levels and goals. Each level has a different look and the goals are different each time. Bosses are cool because they can kick your ass, but they're also not impossible to beat.

The best thing I can say about this game is that it reminded me a LOT of the Half-Life series. An FPS with a legit story rather just some hastily scribbled bullshit to give you an excuse to kill waves of enemies.

I really hope there's a sequel. I want more games in this world.

Highly recommended for FPS fans. I see it's currently on sale for $6 and change. A great price for this game.
