He's got a double-header today plus another ten or so games to hit two more.

What a bitch. Turns out two of his homers were when he was DH'ing, so his total is technically 40. Back to tying the AL record. Still a good chance to get it to himself and an outside chance at the MLB record.

Re: MLB
It's one of my favourite times of year -- World Series time. Why? Because there are 162 bets made by every team's ownership and coaching staff in a sport with no salary cap. There's always comedy gold.
NL this year:
Wow. I can't recall the last time 3 div leaders ran away with it this much. Frisco trails LA in the West by 7 solid, the Mets are 8.5 behind the Nationals in the East, and the Central is the biggest blowout I can ever remember with the Cubs a full 17 games ahead of the Deadbirds. Frisco and the Mets are tied for the two wild card playoff spots while the Red Dead Hackers trail by half a game.
AL this year:
Also big gaps between first and second in every div. Toronto and Baltimore are 5.5 and 7 back from the Red Sox (who went on a fucking winning tear) in the East. Good chance all 3 make the postseason. Cleveland is beating Detroit back by 7 in the Central, and Texas has a comfy 10.5 games on Seattle.
The numbers...
Teams that punched above their weight according to pay scale:
Cleveland, Houston, Cubs, Blue Jays
Unfortunately for Houston, being dead last in the pay ranks means you can be average in a league of decent teams and still suck. Also, as much as it pains me to say this, the numbers agree the Indians are making out like bandits. Lower third in the pay ranks, #5 win rank, and an average player salary under $3.2M. Contrast that with the Dodgers, who pay an average of almost $7.5M to their dudes (Cleveland total $86.3M versus LA's $223M) for a slightly worse record.
Teams that sucked it hard and performed below pay scale:
Philadelphia, Minnesota, Yankees, Cincinnati, Angels, San Diego
Special mention goes to the Phllies, Angels, Padres, who are all in the top third for pay ranks but lower third for win percentage.

Re: MLB
And so far, Kaep has expressed his opinion with umpteen million times more tact than this dude. The Niners have chosen not to release, trade, or discipline him (unless you count being Blaine Gabbert's understudy as a punishment), which is their call. They're well within their league rights to do so. In the same way, the Mariners are free to react to their players how they want. I suspect he's getting nailed more for the overtly belligerent tone in his tweets. However, those are opinions, like the one he's spouting. I'm not arguing who is within their rights to do what. Both players are allowed to shoot their mouths off. Both teams can react however they want.
None of that disproves a massive double standard regarding freedom of speech in our society today.

Re: MLB
You mean pro sports teams that have hundreds of millions of dollars of worth at stake of can't cut an employee loose or smack them on the wrist when they spout off stupidly in public? Especially when you can guarantee there are dozens or hundreds of dudes that want and can probably do his job? If there is a double standard, it lies in the differences between 49 management and Mariner management. Maybe you should speak to the owners on those teams instead of chalking this up to society (I don't think it's the Society Mariners, but I'll double check) punishing or indirectly censoring someone's voice. Last I checked, his Twitter account wasn't banned, either, so he's got the same ability to rant as he did before.None of that disproves a massive double standard regarding freedom of speech in our society today.

The only way that stupid argument works is if you are actively pretending these are the only examples of freedom of speech being violated or praised depending on the issue being spoken about.Malcolm wrote:You mean pro sports teams that have hundreds of millions of dollars of worth at stake of can't cut an employee loose or smack them on the wrist when they spout off stupidly in public? Re: MLB
Employee acted stupidly in a public forum. His employers, for whatever reason, didn't care for that and sanctioned him. The end. Baseball players can't say whatever they want without fear of consequences, including loss of salary. Ask Ozzie Guillen, who got suspended for 5 games a few years back because of some Castro comments. If the Mariners were a public institution, like the U of Tenneessee, the dude might have a leg to stand on. And complaining that this dude shouldn't be singled out because it's not the only example is like bitching you got arrested for B&E, theft, or vandalism during the LA riots. Yes, everyone else was doing it and many of them got off totally free, but that doesn't mean you get immunity if you get caught.

Re: MLB

Yeah, they really don't tolerate saying stupid things in baseball do they?
This isn't about what MLB or the NFL or whoever allows or doesn't allow. My point was about how you can say or do anything as long as SJWs or the current PC movement agrees. If they don't you're fucked. Yay freedom of speech!
If you'd like to continue the discussion let's move it elsewhere. While this is the most interesting thing to happen to baseball, we're derailing the thread.

Mets clinched #1 wildcard spot today. Frisco is half a game up on the Deadbirds and the Giants are at home against the Dodgers. St. Louis already beat the Pirates which means Frisco needs 2 wins in a row or a Pittsburgh win tomorrow to lock up the #2 spot.

Astros minor leaguer is in hot water.
Generally speaking, the player is completely wrong. You don't have to play a sport to be able to talk intelligently and interestingly about it.
That being said, I would argue that his tweet does maintain a hint of truth, in that some females on the air in the world of sports aren't exactly there for their intellectual contribution.
