Ban on Pete still going strong.
That rule is the prohibition against betting, posted prominently in every big league clubhouse.

What is PED usage, if not betting that you'll be able to cash in on the positive effects before the negative ones kill you?

Pete can't gamble, but MLB wants you to.
But we also know that MLB itself doesn't hold fast to "No Gambling."

If it did, the league wouldn't have an extended contract with DraftKings, the daily fantasy site in which MLB owns an equity stake and which also has deals with at least 27 teams. And Manfred wouldn't be working so hard to sell a "clear legal line" of gambling that puts DraftKings on the right side.

I guess it's not gambling if the guys are on different teams and you're hiding behind the bullshit of the individual performance metric. Vegas just needs to start taking bets on whether or not player X is going to hit a certain value in <s>points</s> some new, made-up sabermetric stat. Then you can bet on arbitrary <s>teams</s> groups of players ... maybe to outperform someone else's groups or everyone else's. But shit, that'd be gambling.

Fuck MLB.

Their hypocrisy with PEDs and gambling is FIFA levels of corruption.

HoF results announced.

Griffey, Jr. (99.3%) and Mike Piazza. Jeff Bagwell barely missed. Trevor Hoffman and my favourite crackhead, Tim Raines, aren't far behind.

Roger Clemens fails chemistry.
In a statement released to KRIV-TV in Houston, Clemens reminded the "former Blue Jays pitcher" of allegations brought up during his own career.

"Just to enlighten him, he was accused of using amphetamines by the 'strength coach,'" Clemens said in the statement. "You should be very careful when putting tweets out while not having your facts on the matter at hand."

Amping isn't the same as juicing, Roger. I don't know a lot of athletes doing lines before or after their workouts.

Funny that it happened to the perpetually good St. Louis Cardinals who I've heard compared to the New England Patriots...

DH in NL? Fuck no. Whoever wrote this article is a fuckwit.
Plus, it’s not as if strategy disappears with a DH. It just changes. Instead of calling for a double switch, a manager has to utilize his bullpen in more creative ways, because there’s no longer an automatic out in the lineup.

Wtf? That's a self-contracting sentence. The double switch would most likely be gone.

You’re saying that David Ortiz isn’t a baseball player, but Jon Lester with his four career hits is a real baseball player.

He can hit like a mofo, but that's leaving out fielding, catching, throwing, the entire defensive aspect of the game. So yes, Lester is more of a player than Ortiz. He can pitch and field. That's one up on Dave.

“NL games are quicker.”

People who give a fuck about baseball aren't in a hurry.

The fact is, for all the huffing and puffing done by NL fans and/or baseball purists and/or folks who simply fear change, watching baseball games with a designated hitter is the exact same experience as watching baseball games without a designated hitter. The only difference is you don’t have to watch the equivalent of your buddy James from accounting whiff helplessly at fastballs, and you don’t have to see the fifth man off the bench come up in a big spot in the ninth inning, and you get to see a real-life major league hitter play real-life Major League Baseball.

Are there no pinch hitters or bullpens in your world? Shit, that's the strategy you were talking about before. The difference is one encourages specialization and another doesn't. I found football much more interesting when players went both ways, but the physical limitations finally kicked in. Baseball is nowhere close to that intense. Why not have designated runners for the slow tubs like Ortiz? Why not have designated fielders for dudes who can't catch?

God-dayum.
Card experts in Southern California said Wednesday that they have verified the legitimacy — and seven-figure total value — of seven identical Ty Cobb cards from the printing period of 1909 to 1911. Before the recent find, there were only about 15 known to still exist.

The people who owned the other cards are probably pissed. This find lowers the value of their cards.

It'll certainly lower the value a bit, especially given the relatively good condition the new 7 ones and the fact it expands the supply by almost half. As a dude who looks into signed memorabilia every now and again, I don't think it affects the price enough for the owner to give a shit. If you can spend $200K on a baseball card, you can afford to see the value drop 25%. The value of those cards is only going to go up in the next century.
