It is done. Server is fresh map and vanilla. Let's see what happens.

No way to fudge the connection number?

Not unless you can build bots to log in, I guess.

Maybe if we all coordinated a night to play at once, would we have enough players to get slightly noticed?

If you are just sitting there doing nothing, you dont use a lot of food. I can always login and be a zombie.

Doesn't it time you out? If not, or if we can change that, it'd probably help if we all did that.

Even if you die you are still connected. I have never timed out. Even after Dying.

Another thing I was thinking, place random shacks around. Small houses in visible locations. Things that will give it a lived on look.

last thought I had was to start friending people on servers that aren't idiots. You don't have to team up with them. Just keep track of them. Build up a list and then invite them to play.

Lastly I will say. An admin job is full time. So many cheaters. On this 100/100 server I am on, admins are banning someone every 10-15 minutes. They have a ts server I lurk on and listen to them talk about who it is, how they are following and what they are seeing. Then, with family share, the cheater starts a new steam account, shares their account with it and are back on the server in 5 minutes. They are constantly dealing with cheaters.

Good idea on the shacks. I'll throw some down during lunch.

Wow, that needs to be fixed.

I heard or read somewhere you can keep level 1 steam accounts off your server. But not sure on that or the details. But that was one thing they were using. If someone reported someone, they would look and see a week old account with only 3 hours in rust and they would just ban them. Wouldn't take the time to scout and catch them doing it.

I'm happy to play high-level tech admin, but not to be active anti-abuse admin. I'm just not able to play Rust all that often even when I want to.

If anyone else wants the admin password so they can kick and ban as needed, let me know and I'll PM it to you. I trust everyone here to use the power properly.

I threw down a shack out west where our home was last time. Another just west of Big Civ. Another east of Big Civ near French Valley. And a stocked one in North Valley. I also unlocked the door on that one.

It has a repair station, furnace, camp fire, and storage inside. Plus some random items, including an MP5. (No ammo though.)

North Valley is insanity. The amount of animals is crazy. On one screen I counted 10 bears. I'd kill one, and another would instantly spawn.

If someone joins and finds that shack, they'll have a great head start.

I might put down a similar one this afternoon in Civ Coast or whatever if I have time.

By the way, I've been on all day, and the only sign of life I've seen in a shack with a metal door near Civ Hanger.

For the record, "Vanilla" doesn't seem to have worked. I've seen one person that wasn't us, and he tried to use an Oxide command.

What if we changed the server name to: "Tell us what you want, and we'll implement it. Majority Rules!"?

At this point, I don't know what it takes to get folks onto your server.

I would dump the "[DTM]" (just in case folks remember it?), wipe the server, put in the most popular options for the most populated servers, and ensure "Active Admins" is in there.

So maybe "[GFY]NewServer3/6,ActiveAdmins(NoAbuse!),airdrops,Oxide,PvP, Sleepers,RareC4,Cheatpunch"

I'd also keep the PvP protection off.

I can throw some ads in the Steam Rust forums too I guess? I don't give a fuck if I get associated with being an admin. At this point, I just want play on the server.

Pimp it. I'd give it a server name that shows up on the first page, unsorted. So spaces, or aaaa or whatever.

Just found a server that has turned crafting into a UO-like skill system. VERY interesting.

At this point, why not?

Just found a server that gives you an M4 (2), a bolt action (2), 3 large med kits, 750 ammo, and a pick ax when you spawn.

The server is as stupid as you can imagine.

However, there are people on it. No homes anywhere, but there are people.

How about:

-={ROK}=- Screw /kit, you get just a rock and will like it | Basic Oxide | Wiped 3/6

That'd be great, but I don't think a kit is the issue.

I think you've got to:
-be freshly wiped
-have PvP
-have airdrops
-have Oxide(?)
-have active admins

Past that, there's got to be a gimmick or just good advertising. Yet another way Catt failed us... :D

Let's wait for Troy and Cake to weigh in since they play the game more than anyone.

BTW, "Vanilla" also didn't get us moved to "Community".
