Some TV tidbits
It's lunch and I'm bored, so let's talk TV...
The Beautiful Life (Aston Kutcher's show) has been cancelled after 2 episodes. I never watched it, but this failing gives me hope for humanity. I only mention this show because it's the first show of the season to get canceled.
My Name is Earl, a solid ratings performer, was not renewed last season because NBC wanted to keep Parks & Recreation, which nobody watched or liked, on it's schedule instead. Lo and behold, two weeks into the new season and NBC is realizing they're going to have to cancel Parks & Recreation. It's a mystery why they're in 4th place out of 4 networks, huh?
The summer was apparently considered a huge failure, but only if you were one of the 4 networks. All 5 of their hour long scripted shows bombed. Their new reality shows also bombed. In related news, cable channels saw record ratings.
Defying Gravity is the one sad failure of those 5 shows. Maybe I'm a whore for anything Sci-Fi, but I really liked this show. There is a campaign underway to get it renewed or moved to a new network. If you're a fan of Sci-Fi, seek out the episodes.
Better Off Ted, the best sitcom on the air today, has been renewed.
If you missed the pilot for Cougar Town, find it online. This is a show my wife wanted to watch, but I didn't give a shit about. Now I'm going to give it a chance. I don't know if I was in the right mood or what, but I thought it was one of the funniest pilots I've ever seen. And Courtney Cox's body...wow.
Did anyone watch Swords: Life on the Line? It was a weak imitation of The Deadliest Catch. It was quite boring. I watched some guy talk about how he respected the crab fisherman, but that sword fishermen have the much more dangerous job. While he was saying that, he was standing in a tee shirt, during a sunny day, on a boat with 2 foot high rails (they're not worried about going overboard are they?), in a very calm ocean. In fact, I watched a guy fall overboard and then swim back to the boat and get in. If that happened on The Deadliest Catch that guy would not be able to swim back and would most likely be dead.
More interestingly, did anyone watch The Colony. I thought this was flawed, yet fascinating. If you didn't watch it, go find the episodes so we can discuss it. Essentially, they stick a bunch of brains into an end of the world scenario to see how they fare. Without resources or utilities, they were able to pull off some awesome things.

“Every record been destroyed or falsified, books rewritten, pictures repainted, statues, street building renamed, every date altered. The process is continuing day by day. History stops. Nothing exists except endless present in which the Party is right.”
Fox canceled King of the Hill for the Cleveland show. Fuck Fox.
They ordered a 14th season, then reneged & called the last two episodes the one hour series finale. Fuck Fox.
I'm personally waiting for a reality show where people sit around & talk about what reality shows to make next.

Fuck Fox.
Everyone in charge of Fox should have been fired for canceling Family Guy the first time.
Or for canceling Futurama.
Or for green lighting The Pitts.
Or for canceling Firefly. They should NEVER be forgiven for this shit.
Sadly, the list goes on and on and on...
If you look at their track record, it's amazing to see where they are after fucking up so many shows.

So far this year The Middle and Community have stood out. I like each which means they won't be around long. The Middle won't make it though it first season and Community will get more time but still canceled.
But there will still be Medical Drama 59358757 around to keep TV interesting.
I have Modern Family on the dvr but haven't watched it yet.

Only thing we've watched so far is Glee. Which is decent, but not great.
I've heard it's good, but the women I know who watch it love it.

I would have sworn there was a post where Gordon was talking about Cougar Town and Courtney Cox, but I can find it nowhere.
At any rate, I just LIRLed at it. They pulled out her old "highschool yearbook," and her son was like how cool were you? And, of course, she was the prom queen. Then, he said "Is that you dancing with Bruce Springsteen?"
And they cut to a still from the Dancing in the Dark video.
Hmmm, not so funny in telling, but it was funny in show. That was my first memory of her "Who's that cute chick on stage?"

It's not me, it's someone else.
1. I have never discussed that show nor, to my memory, her.TheCatt wrote:I would have sworn there was a post where Gordon was talking about Cougar Town and Courtney Cox, but I can find it nowhere.

2. LIRL?
3. Funny joke with the Springsteen video.

Community's still a great show, hope it makes it. The Middle is good, but not great. I'd put Modern Family in between those two.WSGrundy wrote:So far this year The Middle and Community have stood out. I like each which means they won't be around long. Community made it.
The Middle got strong towards the end of the year.
Modern Family is great, but the young dad is too much of a Michael Scott clone.
Cougar Town is hilarious, but one of those where you need to start at episode one to really understand the dynamic between the characters. Also, expect a name change as they discovered a lot of people aren't watching due to the name.
