As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

I watched the first two episodes.

I would say it's very interesting and entertaining, but there's a noticeable lack of humor. I did laugh a few times, but I don't think I did once during the first 15 minutes of the first episode. The second episode definitely had more chuckles.

It's a good show, but I think I'd call it a dramedy that's light on both.

I think the show is best viewed as Dave telling his story with small embellishments. From what I understand that's what it is anyway.

The show is coming together.

Just go into it with the understanding that it's not a normal sitcom. This is one long story and all the episodes tie together.

The latest episode had Dave's first concert and his parents are hilarious.

S1E5, the one about Gata, changed this show from light silliness to something pretty interesting.

Ended up binging through 6 episodes yesterday. Good show.

Also Ally picked the biggest weekend of his career to get clingy and needy.

There's a subtle genius to that, intentional or not.

If the song Molly is a true story, I think Ally, particularly at this point, is a representation of her.

Do you listen to Lil Dicky's actual music? The whole show is supposedly a version of his actual career path. Molly is a song of his that gets into a past relationship with a girl he loves.

And if you've never done the deep dive on Lil Dicky's music videos, you should, he's brilliant. I'd make the argument that listening to his music without actually seeing the videos removes a lot of the impact of message. Here's a playlist for you (this isn't all of his videos, for example, I left out Earth):

Most I just put there for your enjoyment. Only Molly was relevant to our discussion about Ally, and it possibly being based on his real life girlfriend when he was beginning to make it.

The rest I put for your (or whoever else) entertainment. Only I'm Right, All K, and Jewish Flow are ones I'm unfamiliar with. You can probably skip Sports. :D

The rest, I assure you, are worth your time. They're hilarious and have really impressive beats (another part of his show that makes me wonder if he has a producer friend like that in real life). Sit down with a squeeze and watch them together. Or watch with the kid. Lil Dicky is cool in his world, so maybe it'll give you some cred.

Reviewing them (Skipping the ones I'm unfamiliar with):
Molly - is honestly a beautiful tragedy.
Save Dat Money - Flips the rap world of flashy money and cars on its ear.
Professional Rapper - Highlights Dave's plan for rap, and Snoop gives him legitimacy.
Freaky Friday - Probably the first mainstream hit for Dicky. The one where pop culture took notice.
Lemme Freak - Every young single man ever.
Ex-Boyfriend - Hilarious song that details men's insecurities over their ladies' exs.
Classic Male Pregame - Not the catchiest, but completely relatable if you're ever had a group of guys you would go out with.
Lion King - The Lion King as told by a thug.
White Crime - This is the "Colors" for white suburban office workers.
Too High - Good beat and melody and simply about him getting too high. (You could apply drunk if you wanted.)
Sports - Great little tune showcasing his use of famous athletes as nouns and verbs.
Pillow Talking - The one that sounds weird, but is about a one night stand where they realize they have nothing in common. Really starts to flow one you get past the awkward opening, which was clearly intentional to match the awkward moments after passion with a one night stand. Love the lyrics too. "This bitch don't know about Pangea!"

I noticed S2 started when I had 3 eps on the DVR.

Started catching up, I watch an episode when Plex is down.

S2 so far has a little less charm than S1, and the arc of this season is established in ep 1.

Then today I hit episode 3 while I ate lunch.

I know it makes me old fashioned and homophobic, but the first 5 minutes is 5 minutes of cutesy, gross gay sex between Dave and a character I don't remember ever seeing. I started fast forwarding through that A plot, and then the B plot got uncomfortable, too. Turned it off, saw maybe half the episode.

I'll give Ep4 a try, but if it feels like I missed some crucial story plot point, I'll be done with this show.

I probably won't even start it until I can binge it.
