Assimilate (2019)

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Assimilate (2019)

Netflix

A couple of friends start making a web series about their rural home town. That's when they begin noticing odd behavior from their fellow citizens. An investigation leads them to think their town is being taken over.

It's an entry in the "end of the world" genre, and I'm all in on that.

I was entertained, despite the plot and effects not being solid. The concept was cool-ish, but you've seen it before. In a really, really famous movie. One with Donald Sutherland... Yes, this is a remake (official or not) of that movie, but with a much lower budget and no names.

The two biggest flaws come with the effects and the plot. First, the effects in the final scene are just kiddie hour, as are the close ups of the "ants". Second, there's a scene with a "delivery system" that is ridiculously unnecessary, inefficient, and is just an excuse to film a specific scene. In fact, the entire concept of said delivery system is just insanely inefficient and would never be used by anything with intelligence.

It's ok. Probably more a film for teens who won't realize how dumb parts of the plot are...
