Shadow (2018)

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Shadow (2018)

Subtitle alert.

Chinese wuxia film set in the Three Kingdoms.

A lot was lost in translation, but essentially the story is that Yang controls Jing City when he and Pei teamed up against their common foe. The king in Pei is happy to not get it back, but his commander is keen on taking it back or he fears Pei will fall.

That is all true, but there is something fake in that statement.

Did you enjoy the political wheelings, dealings, and back stabbing in Game of Thrones? If so, this film will please you.

The action is interesting, but not as big a part of the story as I thought it would be going in, at least not until the third act. Still, while the action becomes key, you've seen much, much better action elsewhere.

Beautifully and skillfully shot film with an interesting palette of blacks and whites that slowly give way to red, but really nothing else. It's so subtle you almost never even notice.

I enjoyed it, but it's not for everyone.
“Every record been destroyed or falsified, books rewritten, pictures repainted, statues, street building renamed, every date altered. The process is continuing day by day. History stops. Nothing exists except endless present in which the Party is right.”
