The Ice Cream Truck (2017)

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

The Ice Cream Truck (2017)

Post by Leisher »

Hulu

Here's the official summary:
Mary moves back to her suburban hometown, to find that the suburbs are scarier in more ways than she ever remembered.
I'm here to tell you the second half of that statement is a complete lie.

The majority of the movie is bad acting and worse dialogue. The story revolves around Mary having a couple of days to kill without her family. So she heads to a neighbor's for a graduation party. Meanwhile, there's an ice cream truck that apparently delivers in the neighborhood. Oh, and the driver of said truck is a killer.

What's his motive? They never say.
What's the body count? I counted four.
Are any of the kills cool? Not even remotely.

Is there a twist? Yep.
Is it awesome? It COMPLETELY alters the entire movie and is based on a single throwaway line from the first act and is otherwise never explained...so no.
Is that it? No. There's a second twist that also fails to land because it makes zero sense.

A mind-numbingly boring, slog of a movie that's more about a woman's midlife crisis than a killer, and clearly written by a narcissistic teen/20-something.

Skip it.

Spoilers follow:
She mentions being a writer in a throwaway bit of dialogue. The killer and everything else in the movie after the party never happened. A mover from the opening scene shows up in the final shot looking at the home indicating he could be a killer. If he had been, why didn't he show up days earlier when he knew she'd be alone. Fucking terrible.
“Every record been destroyed or falsified, books rewritten, pictures repainted, statues, street building renamed, every date altered. The process is continuing day by day. History stops. Nothing exists except endless present in which the Party is right.”
