When were the best films made?

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

I think it's impossible to make such a determination. Each time period had films that were perfect for that period, but probably aged badly.

Like the 80s, we all have fond memories, but damn were some of those movies terrible by today's standards.

Art is subjective, absolutely.

I'd like to see what movies they have in common, or what years.

There was that one year in the 80s, though, when a lot of cultural-phenomenon films came out .

That's how I feel about 1999, but RT disagrees.

Also, PG-13 is taking over, but I'm surprised so many R movies come out each year, felt like they were in decline.

I checked the best movie source data.

RT - 1999 - Toy Story 2, I shit you not.

/r/movies - 1999 - Matrix, Fight Club

MetaScore - 1999 - Nothing

Empire - 1999 - Matrix, Fight Club, and American Beauty

Not to mention: Being John Malkovich, The Sixth Sense, Office Space, Blair Witch (which I think is terrible, but had its moment in the sun), American Pie, Man on the Moon, and plenty more entertaining movies...

IMDB includes The Green Mile, which feels generous.

Strong challengers are 83 (Jedi) and 85 (back to the future). But based on several factors, I think 1984 is a good pick for Peak 80s

Wow, I'll second 1984... not actually looking at any other years.
