Hotel Artemis (2018)

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Hotel Artemis (2018)

Post by Leisher »

Jodie Foster is Nurse, the person in charge of a hospital for the underworld. It's a private hospital whose clients have to pay a membership fee. Without membership, you don't get in to be healed. Drax (Dave Bautista) is Everest, the orderly who enforces the rules. Jeff Goldblum, Sterling Brown (you know the face, but not the name), Sofia Boutella (ditto), Jenny Slate, Spock (Zachary Quinto), and Charlie Day are members seeking services.

The setting is a future version of LA where riots have broken out because some corporation near the Artemis has privatized water.

So during these riots Brown and his brother show up for help thanks to a job gone bad. That's where Day and Boutella already are and have been getting treatment. However, not everything is as it seems. Due to a planned assassination and the riots, it is not a normal night for the Artemis.

This movie tries really hard to have style, and it kinda, sorta works. However, the writing fails it as there are too many lulls for this many good actors. Too many coincidences. It's all too predictable.

There is a really cool hallway fight scene (ignore that "why" didn't make a lot of sense) that reminded me of that kick ass Daredevil hallway fight scene.

The concept is awesome overall, and you wouldn't need to try very hard to imagine John Wick walking into the Artemis. I found it to be enjoyable. Flawed, but fun.
